SWPBS is Coming to Solway Primary School in 2025!
We are thrilled to announce that in 2025, Solway Primary School will be introducing the School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework. SWPBS is an evidence-based approach designed to improve student behaviour and create a more positive school environment by focusing on clear, consistent expectations for all.
Rather than using different behaviour management strategies, SWPBS establishes a whole-school approach to teaching and reinforcing expected behaviours. Our focus is on prevention, meaning that we aim to teach students what positive behaviour looks like in various settings across the school, and acknowledge them when they demonstrate it. This proactive approach helps reduce inappropriate behaviour and builds a supportive school community.
In Term 1, we will begin by focusing on the value of Respect. Students will take part in lessons to learn how to show respect in different areas of the school such as the playground, classrooms, toilets, and specialist classes. These lessons will be guided by a Whole School Behaviour Matrix, which outlines specific behaviours we expect from all students.
Positive behaviour will be rewarded through a token system, and students earning tokens will help the school work towards a whole-school reward. These tokens will be collected at the front office, and if we reach our goal by the end of the term, students will enjoy a special reward—such as a dress-up day, a movie afternoon, or a jumping castle—voted on by the students themselves.
In addition to rewarding positive behaviour, we have clear and consistent processes for managing inappropriate behaviour. We will track and analyse data, just like we do in Maths and Literacy, to identify trends and implement targeted support where needed.
We look forward to your support as we launch SWPBS and work together to create an even more positive and respectful learning environment for all our students!
