Digital Technologies

Term 3 & 4

Terms 3 and 4 are shaping up to be another busy and creative semester in Digital Technologies, with students across Years 7-12 developing their skills in programming, digital design, engineering, problem-solving and critical thinking. From game development and 3D modelling to ethical debates and coding challenges, students are applying technology in increasingly practical and creative ways.

Our Year 7 students have completed their Scratch game development projects, putting their computational thinking and programming skills into practice by designing and creating their own interactive games. They are now turning their attention to communication skills, researching important issues in technology and preparing an oral presentation to share their findings with the class.

The Year 8 Creative Digital Technologies students have been developing their digital design skills through a series of Photoshop activities, experimenting with image manipulation and creative digital production. They are now investigating ethical issues in technology and preparing for a class debate, encouraging them to consider different perspectives on the impact technology has on individuals and society.

Meanwhile, our Year 8 Engineering students have been working through a series of 3D modelling tutorials, building the skills needed to design accurate and functional digital models. They are now preparing for the always-popular Egg Drop Engineering Challenge, where teams will use the engineering design process to create, test and refine a solution capable of protecting an egg during its dramatic descent.

In Year 9 Computer Systems Design, students are combining programming with game design by developing their own games using FlowLab. They are also participating in the 2026 Grok Academy Python Challenge, giving students the opportunity to strengthen their coding and computational thinking skills through a series of increasingly challenging programming problems.

Our Year 10 Software Development students have completed an oral presentation exploring the Engineering Design Process and how it can be used to develop effective solutions to real-world problems. They are also taking part in the 2026 Grok Academy Python Challenge, extending their programming knowledge and problem-solving skills.

At the senior level, our Year 12 Applied Information Technology students have been exploring e-commerce, examining how digital technologies are used to support online business, communication and transactions as they continue towards the completion of their final year.

Beyond the classroom, CoderDojo/Robotics Club continues to provide students with opportunities to experiment with coding, robotics, Minecraft and technology projects in a relaxed and collaborative environment. Our Warhammer Club also continues to thrive, bringing students together through strategy, creativity, model building and gaming.

With plenty more projects, challenges and creative opportunities still ahead, we are looking forward to seeing what our Digital Technologies students design, build and code throughout the remainder of the year.
