Writing Superstars
I had the pleasure to receive a visit from four upcoming authors in KM.
Over the past few weeks, our youngest learners have grown into confident, independent writers, sharing their ideas and stories with increasing clarity and creativity.
One of the most exciting developments in their writing is the use of the time connective 'finally' appearing in their work. Even more impressive is how they’re combining this with the use of descriptive language. With each sentence, they are learning how to bring their readers along for the journey.
This progress is a testament to the hard work and creativity of our students, as well as the encouragement and support they receive from both home and school. Thank you for continuing to foster a love of storytelling and writing through shared books, conversations, and time spent drawing and writing at home.
We are so proud of our kindergartners and can’t wait to see where their writing takes them next!
Connecting to Culture
Yesterday 72 Aboriginal students and 37 Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal staff from the GR Network schools participated in the first Combined Connecting to Culture Day. The day was held on Bidjigal land, where the Georges River and Salt Pan Creek meet.
Aboriginal Elders and Young Aboriginal Leaders immersed the students in a day of connection to country, connection to culture and connection to each other through a smoking ceremony, yarning, mindful self-regulation, weaving and the sharing of tasty food. The sun shone, the water sparkled, and the kookaburras, cockatoos and magpies brought a feeling of energy and joy to being on Country.
Child Safety - Crossing Roads
I kindly remind all parents, carers, and students to always use the designated pedestrian crossing when arriving at or leaving school. There are two crossings available to access on Bailey Pde and Bonds Rd.
Crossing the road at other points can be dangerous, especially during busy drop-off and pick-up times.
By using the crossing, you're helping to:
- Keep all children safe
- Set a great example for our students
- Support our school community in being road-safe and responsible
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school environment safe for everyone!
Social Media
I want to take a moment to address the use of TikTok and similar social media platforms by our students outside of school hours. While we recognise that social media is a popular way for young people to connect and express themselves, it is important that students use these platforms safely, responsibly, and in line with Department of Education policies.
Please be aware that the Department’s guidelines on online safety and respectful behaviour apply beyond the classroom and school grounds. Students must understand the potential risks of sharing personal information, images, or videos on TikTok, especially content that could impact their privacy or the wellbeing of others. Sharing inappropriate, offensive, or harmful material can have serious consequences, including disciplinary action and involvement of relevant authorities.
We encourage families to have open conversations with their children about appropriate social media use, the importance of protecting their privacy, and the legal implications of online behaviour. Parents and carers should also monitor and guide their children’s use of TikTok and other digital platforms to help foster positive and respectful interactions.
If incidents arise involving TikTok use outside school that affect the school community, please report these to the school promptly. We will work collaboratively with families and, where necessary, external agencies to support students and address concerns.
Thank you for your ongoing support in promoting safe and respectful online behaviour beyond the school environment.
Support for families can be accessed through the Peakhurst Public School Online Safety Hub.
