In the classroom

Foundation/1
This week we celebrated all things books. Our class walked down the street to listen to different community members read and discuss their favourite books. The big hit with the books was "The Blue Sock" talking about how missing a sock is ok because there are so many things that you can make with a spare sock.
The class made "Book an adventure" headbands and wore them with pride as we walked around the street talking and interacting with the wider community.
Grade 1/2
We all loved our visit to the Historical Society, we got to see the old Police Station lock up, Outhouse and chamber pot-many students could see why it was better to use the chamber pot in the middle of the night!
We then saw the Blacksmith's Forge and some of the tools. We loved looking at the kitchen the old wood fired stoves and kitchen equipment were amazing.

My favourite activity in book week was making The Garden of Broken Things where you
draw the broken thing side and then the peaceful side and glue them into the strings and then after it dries you spin it into the vertical way and stop and then it spins. By Sanjo
For book week I dressed up as Li'l Petey. Li'l Petey is a character from Dog Man. My nanna made my costume and she made the tail out of scraps. by Arloh Gr 3
At Book Week I dressed up as Suri from Suri's Wall.
At the Book Parade we all sat down in our classes and, there was like a little runway. The grade 6's went first then the 4/5's the 3/4's then 1/2's then F/1 After the runway there were class photos. We did them in our costumes. Next was fruit break but its real name is Crunch and Sip. For Crunch and Sip we had fruit platters, they were filled to the very tip top. After that we went to our classrooms and coloured our bookmarks. After we did that, we went to recess and played in our costumes. Some people got changed because they didn't want to stay in their costumes.
After that we went inside and did some activities. My first activity was making a really cool spinney thing. We had to try to make both sides the same, one side was dark and the other was was colourful. My next activity was with Mrs. Brooks, my teacher, and we read a book about the tooth fairy and then we made tooth fairy houses.
And then we had lunch and after lunch we had one more activity it was making a spider. It was really fun. We had to wrap string around a cardboard circle, then add legs then eyes, googly ones. It was really cool at the end when we finished. By Isabelle.
On Book Week I was Mandalorian but I didn’t have Yoda. Sonny was a soldier. Oliver was Harry Potter and he made me vomit frogs. Book Week dress up day was super fun. By Jetter.
I am going to write about BOOK WEEK!
I came dressed as nobody in particular, and I had a dragon friend, at least. My sister came dressed as Toothless, the dragon (in one of those costumes that look like you’re riding the animal.). The parade was AMAZING but LONG. After the parade was so cool! That's all I have about BOOK WEEK today. Thanks for reading, parents! By Maddie Dare

The 16th of August was the start of Book Week. People had funny costumes like someone was the Lorax with Mrs Conroy and Meabh was Banana Joe. It’s a book that Meabh's cousin made. Oliver was Harry Potter, I was a soldier from Dreaming Soldiers and Daniel was Gojo from a show called Jujutsu Kaisen, it's made in Japan, but it speaks English and its M. And Chontelle was Rumi from k Pop Demon Hunters. THE END. By Sonny
Book Week. At Book Week I dressed up as Harry Potter. I wore a scar, a robe, a Harry Potter T Shirt and carried a wand. By Oliver.
My book week character was Coraline, and I had blue hair, a yellow coat, and black and white long socks. The winners in my class were Layla Truman gr.3 (me) and Meabh Redmond gr.3. I was so happy that I won because you got to get a pen, pin, a $10 book voucher. Coraline is a book and movie. It was first a book but then they also made a movie about it. It's about a girl who goes to a portal and found her parents but with buttons on their eyes. We all went into our House group I'm in Keily (red) House. We read books. The first book was called Tooth Fairy, the second was Spiro and the third was The Garden of Broken Things. It was a blast that we made little tooth houses and our own Spiro, and a spinney thing about a garden. My favourite activity was about Spiro. It was so cool, and I can't believe that I won. It was amazing. It was definitely my best Book Week/Book Day. Coraline was my best costume, but I've loved all of my costumes in the past as well. by Layla.
Grade 4/5/6
On Friday the 22nd of August 2025, our Grade 4, 5 and 6 students competed at the Lightning premiership at Victoria Park in Yarrawonga. We had one AFL 9’s team, which has 3 midfielders, 3 forwards and 3 defenders on at any one time and two netball teams entered, a grade 4-5 and a grade 6 team.
We are very proud of the way our students conducted themselves with great sportsmanship and enthusiasm. It was a very successful day for St Francis with our AFL team winning the grand final in Division 2 and our Grade 6 team winning the netball Div 2! Congratulations to St Francis!
Lightning Premiership
By Ariah
On the 22nd of August, St Francis Primary School Nathalia competed in the Lightning Premiership competition for AFL 9s and Netball, in Yarrawonga Victoria. The Football team consists of 19 people, Porter Mayland, Harrison James, Hunter Moon, Taylah Moon, Harry Rendell, Thomas James, Ella Boyd, Ariah Arkoshy, Noah Morgan-Trease, Ryan Swan, Darcy Redman, William Broadwood, Daniel Rigoni, Bodhi Bourke, Levi Brereton, Thomas Murray, Jonty Low, Ryder Vearing and Ryder Walsh. At about 10:20AM we arrived at Yarrawonga, our first out of three games was at 10:30AM, so we had to hurry. After our first game, we were satisfied with the results, 2 to 54. After that, we had out next game almost immediately after so we were expeditious, rushing to our positions after a brief discussion with our coach, Mr. O. Again, we remained undefeated, beating them, although they were catching up in the end, but we pulled through and won. After the second game, we had a break for 25 minutes, eating a little food and consulting the next game and our strategy. During the third game, we played well, despite being tired. Again, we strived for victory and flogged them. After our notorious winning, we were anxiously waiting for the results, seeing if we were in the finals or not. After about ten minutes of mucking around, like ya do, we all quieted down as we heard the commentator start to announce the finalists. As soon as we heard St Francis, we all freaked out, screaming and jumping. We were all overjoyed. In the lead up to the grand final, we all were sitting on the edges of our seats, nervous. When the game started against Katunga, the other finalist we played strong, playing our very best. In all anticipation, we won by 8 - 70. Mr. O and our team were proud and boastful, awaiting the presentation. As we all sat down, they announced the winners and participants, St Francis and St Joseph's Cobram as winners of Division 1 and 2. We both received a plaque with past winners over the years, St Francis having won last in 2012. Over the day, Porter kicked 27 goals impressively, as well as 9 kicked in the finals.
Netball
The Lightning Premiership for Netball was very exciting. The Grade ¾ team started playing their games at 10:40 am, and the Grade ⅚ team played shortly after. The grade 5/6 team was undefeated all day which was very exciting, as it was our last chance to play a premiership for our school. The 3/4 team won 1 of their games with an excellent effort in all their games. My experiences in the Lightning Premiership was good, but I believe that the Lightning Premiership Netball shouldn’t have to stick to the same division as the Footy, it should be divided into the better teams. I also believe that the netball should have a grand final, but overall playing on Friday was amazing. We wish the best of luck to those who play next year, we hope they do us proud!
