Sports Report

Senior Girls Regional Soccer
On the 6th of August, the Year 11&12 girls soccer team competed at the Northern Metropolitan Regional Soccer competition. After a great team performance at Division, the team was full of confidence and very hopeful of making it through to State.
In the first game Northcote came up against Brunswick SC, the game was very even throughout with both teams having chances, but in the end Brunswick were too good and Northcote lost 2-0.
The second game was against Gladstone Park SC. Northcote were keen to bounce back and they certainly did. This was a dominant performance by the team and the final score ended up being a 6-0 win.
A great day was had by all and we finished as runners up for the day.
Everyone on the team contributed and played really well, with some standout performances from Emily Togneri and Indigo Rodger.

Senior Boys/Mixed Regional Table Tennis
The day started badly, losing one of our four players to illness. Luckily James Volkhardt of Year 11 was a last minute recruit to complete our team. Our regular players No 1 Ryan Laffy, No 2 Billy Giannopoulos and No 3 Archie Bell performed well being very competitive in all of our matches. James started slowly but adapted well over the day showing excellent skills by days end. Although we lost against Hume Anglican Grammar and Illum College we still managed to win 303 points to 420 points. One of our opponents' players played in the Victorians state team. Each of the 9 points we won in singles and doubles against him was a mini celebration. The mature, friendly and enthusiastic manner of our students made me proud to be able to watch, encourage and supervise them.

Senior Girls Regional Basketball
Senior girls basketball went out for the regional competition on Thursday 21st August. Due to illness the team was short on numbers but did well to rally. The first 2 pool games were routine with big wins of around 20 points against Montmorency and Mount Ridley. The final beckoned against SEDA who also dominated in their pool games. The standard of basketball lifted hugely with a tight contest the whole game. With SEDA leading by a few points and us in the penalty, some strategic fouls to send SEDA to the free throw line only to miss resulted in Northcote coming back strongly.
Trailing by just 2 points with 10 seconds left, Willow Clarke hit a basket and sent the game to overtime 32-32! Overtime started similarly close before SEDA gave away a tech foul after committing a foul resulting in clutch free throws from Jess McKain and Zoe Pana. Northcote stayed composed and came away with the upset win 37-43. The State Finals will be in the final week of this term and a great way to celebrate for the mostly year 12 girls who have contributed strongly to the sports program throughout their schooling.

Yr 8 Girls Regional Netball
Our school netball team had a stellar performance at the regional tournament, showing grit and teamwork throughout. They battled fiercely in a nail-biting match, losing by just one point in the last second against Sacred Heart Girls' College. Next game they bounced back a fantastic win; smashing Coburg, the other a tightly contested game that showcased their resilience. The team’s spirit, skill, and sportsmanship were outstanding. Unfortunately, they didn’t make it to finals and won’t make it to the next round. Congratulations to our players for an incredible effort and well-earned wins!
