Book Week - costumes and picnic
The Year Fives were so impressed by the thought and effort that went into everyone’s dress ups! We had appearances from Gangsta Granny, Billionaire Boy, the BFG, The Hungry Caterpillar and its snacks, the Dictionary, and many more! It was great to see what everyone could put together with what they had at home and so much fun to ask everyone about what they had dressed up as and the books behind the costumes. At the end of the day, we all came together on the Grassketball Court for a Book Week Picnic. We brought our favourite book and wrote a book review of it, and shared them in small groups with people in other classes. Some parents came too! We are already looking forward to next year!
Book Week - Display
We worked hard on our Book Week displays - we were inspired by Andy Griffiths’ and Terry Denton’s Treehouse series. We created our own new treehouse room and wrote a story to match it. We then displayed it on our very own classroom ‘treehouse’. We were very proud of our efforts.
Wellbeing
This past fortnight in wellbeing we have been learning about team work. Our teachers taught us what makes a strong team and we learnt about the important different roles that makes up a team: The Leader, the Encourager, the Timekeeper, the Recorder, the Questioner and the Peacemaker. To practice our roles, we were challenged to create the tallest free-standing tower using only 10 pieces of paper and 1 metre of tape in only 10 minutes. One team worked so well together that their tower was not only the tallest, but stayed standing for days after.
1B - 5C & 1A - 5D - Buddies.
Alongside the many exciting events in Term 3, 5C has also begun their Buddies sessions with 1B. In the first session, we tackled the Broken Calculator Challenge, working together with the four operations. This week, we enjoyed a shared read-aloud and collaborated to explore character traits. We supported each other to stay creative and use descriptive language when developing the characters drawn from our favourite books.
We headed to Molesworth on Wednesday for our first Buddies session with 1A. The session was filled with getting to know our new buddy class and sharing about what we have been focusing on in book week. We discovered both classes have been working on character development, so with the help of grade one’s amazing adjective character trait word list and grade five’s help we developed a joint character. We cannot wait to develop these characters more with a story to follow next time we meet.
