HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

On Sunday 10th May, I was proud to acknowledge Mother’s Day by taking part in the annual Mother's Day Classic, helping raise funds and awareness for breast and ovarian cancer — diseases that may impact the strong women in our lives.

Wishing our community had a wonderful and memorable Mother’s Day as we show gratitude to the women who raise us, support us, love us, and sacrifice for us. For some, this is a mother near or far; for others, it may be a friend, relative, or community member whose care and guidance shape our lives every day. Without them, many of us would feel truly lost.

For anyone impacted and needing support, please know there are incredible organisations in Melbourne ready to help, including Cancer Council Victoria, Breast Cancer Network Australia, Think Pink Foundation, and Ovarian Cancer Australia. 

2025 ANNUAL REPORT TO SCHOOL COMMUNITY

The MPS Annual Report to the School Community for 2025 has been finalised, endorsed by School Council and passed through the Quality Assurance Assessment.

IMPORTANCE OF PRACTICE DRILLS

As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and prepared school environment, we will be conducting a practice lockdown drill this week.

The purpose of this drill is to help students and staff become familiar with our safety procedures in the event of an emergency situation.

This is only a practice exercise and there is no known threat to the school community.

Teachers will take time before and after the exercise to explain the process and answer questions. We encourage families to speak with their children  and reassure them that these drills are conducted to help keep everyone safe.

HUME MERRI-BEK PRINCIPAL CONFERENCE

In week two, members of the Principal Class attended a two-day conference in Creswick focused on current statewide priorities in teaching and learning. 

The conference provided valuable information and updates on the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0, as well as regional work in Responsive Teaching practices. Sessions also explored the use of short-, medium-, and long-term assessment cycles to support schools in tracking student understanding and progress more effectively. 

Outside the conference sessions, Mr Brown even managed to fit in a spot of golf, while Mrs Millan and I enjoyed a bush walk before dinner.

We look forward to continuing this work within our school to strengthen teaching practice and improve outcomes for all students.

NEW PRINCIPAL INDUCTION

In week three, I participated in a two-day Principal Welcome and Induction Conference organised by the Victorian Department of Education. The conference brought together new substantive principals from across the state for two full days of learning, collaboration, and networking.

Throughout the program, we engaged with a range of Department divisions and teams who provided valuable resources, guidance, and updates on current processes, policies, and supports available to schools. The experience was both informative and reassuring as we continue to lead and support our school communities.
