This morning, we welcomed mums and special guests into our classrooms to share part of the school day with students. It was a lovely opportunity for families to spend time in the learning environment and connect with their children at school.
We sincerely thank all those who were able to attend and be part of the morning. Your ongoing support is greatly valued by both students and staff.
We wish all of our mums and mother figures in the community a very happy Mother’s Day this Sunday

Over the last fortnight, the Year 1, 2, 3 & 4 students had the opportunity to take their learning outside the classroom and into Aquarena Aquatic Centre. The students focused on fundamental swimming techniques such as floating, kicking, and various strokes. They also built their understanding of essential water safety measures, such as how to call for help.
It was great to see the students use their risk-taker learner profile to be able refine their swimming craft and build their confidence in water. The teachers would like to thank all the parent helpers who supported the swimming program.

This week, our Year 2 students took part in a vibrant painting and mixed media workshop as part of their inquiry unit, How We Express Ourselves. Guided by our guest artist, Zahra, students explored a variety of creative techniques using different materials and mediums.
From experimenting with colour blending to combining textures in mixed media pieces, the workshop encouraged students to think creatively and express their ideas in unique ways. The classrooms were filled with excitement as students proudly shared their artistic creations with one another.
We are incredibly grateful to Zahra for sharing her time and expertise with us. It is always so valuable to have members of our school community involved in learning, and we love welcoming parents into the classroom to enrich our programs.

On Tuesday in Week 2, as part of our ‘How we express ourselves’ unit of inquiry, our Foundation students participated in their very first incursion – a Fairytale Fiasco!
Students were immersed in storytelling as they creatively retold an imaginative fairytale using costumes, sound effects and music. They eagerly stepped into character, dressing up as dragons, mice, wizards and wolves.
It was wonderful to see students being risk-takers and communicators as they engaged in retelling the story.

We were pleased to welcome behavioural consultant Dan Petro back to the school last Tuesday. Dan spent time in classrooms working alongside staff, observing practice and providing practical, in-the-moment support to strengthen our approaches to student engagement and regulation.
Following the classroom visits, Dan also led an after-school professional learning session for staff. This session built on the work from our previous Curriculum Day, with a continued focus on developing clear, proactive and consistent support plans for students who require additional assistance.
Staff had the opportunity to reflect on current strategies, refine their approaches, and deepen their understanding of how-to best support students displaying Behaviours of Concern (BOC). The emphasis remained on proactive, student-centred strategies that help students develop their own regulation skills, while ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment for all.
We appreciate the ongoing partnership with Dan and the valuable insights he brings to our work with students.

We are looking forward to welcoming our grandparents and special friends to school on Wednesday 20th May for a wonderful morning of learning and connection.
The event will run from 9:50am to 11:10am, with a picnic-style snack outside from 10:45am.
This special morning will provide an opportunity for visitors to join in classroom learning and share meaningful time with students. These events are always a highlight of our school calendar and a beautiful way to celebrate the important people in our students’ lives.
We hope all grandparents and special friends enjoy their visit and the time spent with our students on this special occasion.

From the 27th of May to 3rd of June it is National Reconciliation Week (NRW). It is a week dedicated to fostering reconciliation as a country and community. This year the theme is All In. Two significant dates are recognised during this week - the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.
For more information about the week see Reconciliation Australia’s website.
During NRW, Milgate Primary School will be holding a Welcome to Country Ceremony on Friday the 29th of May. We are fortunate this year to welcome back Ganga Giri for a yidaki performance and to have Elder John Terrick join us to conduct the Welcome to Country ceremony.
We welcome the wider school community to attend to be a part of Milgate’s journey to reconciliation. The ceremony will take place in the stadium at 3:10pm.

MUSICAL TALENT AT Milgate
Each whole school assembly we are going to have one of our students performing ,as the students are coming into the stadium .
This week at our whole school assembly Bahar in Year 2 entertained us playing the acoustic guitar.
Amazing effort and beautiful playing Bahar.
