Principal's Report

7th May 2026

Dear Parents and Carers

As the cooler weather begins to settle in and the beauty of autumn surrounds us, we are reminded of the warmth, care and love that fill our school community each day. This Sunday, we celebrate the wonderful gift of motherhood as we honour all mothers, grandmothers and the special women in our lives on Mother’s Day. Mothers play such an important role in nurturing, guiding and supporting their families with unconditional love, faith and kindness. We are deeply grateful for all that our mums do for our children and our community, and we wish all our mothers a very happy and blessed Mother’s Day filled with love, joy and appreciation.

May - the month of Mary, the Mother of Jesus

Throughout the Month of May, the Catholic Church dedicates a special time to honouring Mary, the Mother of Jesus, as a model of faith, love and devotion. As we celebrate Mother’s Day this Sunday, we give thanks not only for Mary’s example of gentle strength and compassion, but also for the many mothers and mother figures in our lives who reflect these same qualities each day through their care, sacrifice and unconditional love.

Mother’s Day High Tea

We are looking forward to our very special Mother’s Day High Tea tomorrow afternoon.

The teachers and students have been busy preparing their performances to showcase tomorrow. We are very fortunate to have Dr Carla Flynn as our Guest Speaker at the Mother’s Day High Tea and look forward to her address. She is a GP in Wagga Wagga, with a special interest in child behaviour and development, and a passion for holistic women’s health.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Year 1 and 2 families for all the time, cooking, organisation and effort they have put into hosting this event for the special women in our student’s lives. The generosity of local businesses and our families is outstanding!

Deb Ball

This Saturday 9th May, St Joseph's will be hosting the Deb Ball as a major fundraiser for our school. I would like to take this opportunity to Thank Mrs Kylee Huard for her organisation and coordination of the debs and this event. I would also like to thank the Year 3/4 families for volunteering their time, generous donation of food and all the effort that goes into such an important community event.

The Deb Ball will cease as a fundraiser for St Joseph’s after this weekend. The school has provided so many young women the opportunity to make their debut by hosting the Deb Ball annually. This decision was made at our last SJJU Social and Fundraising Committee meeting. We understand there are other organisations in the Community who will be willing to host the Deb Ball so that the young women of Junee can continue to make their Debut.

Kindergarten 2027 Enrolments

Our enrolment period for Kindergarten 2027 will close on Monday 11th May. Can families please ensure they submit the online enrolments by Monday. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any enquiries.

Family Day

Junee Shire Council is hosting a free evening of fun and activity on Friday 15th May. There will be lots for children and families to partake in and this evening has always been very successful in the past. Information about the evening is further on in the newsletter and I encourage families to support this wonderful initiative from our Junee Shire Council.

Uniform

Thank you to the families who have responded to the uniform survey. This will remain open until Friday 12th May. We appreciate as much feedback as possible.

A reminder that students are to be in full winter uniform which includes long pants for the boys and the option for girls to wear the long pants. Otherwise girls wear navy stockings underneath their skirts/skorts. Hats are worn all year round and winter sports uniform is the school tracksuit. The weather has turned cold, so please ensure your child/ren are warm.

Save the Dates

Dates have been set from the start of this year for the important events at the close of the school year.

We appreciate the feedback in the Parents Surveys last year regarding our annual Presentation Day and times to host this event. It will remain as a daytime event and will start at 9.30am. There are several reasons for it continuing in the morning including that the hall can get very hot at that time of the year and the later in the day the hotter it is. Another aspect is that the students are clean and tidy at the start of the day.

Yr 6 Graduation: 7th December

Presentation Day: 14th December

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and Happy Mother’s Day.

God Bless

Angela Scott
