Structured Workplace Learning Venue: 65 Brooke Street Inglewood
Duties:
Performed daily cleaning and maintenance of equipment including sausage maker, mincer, band saw, and work surfaces to ensure hygiene and safety standards were met. Prepared meat products such as mince, sausages, and burger mixes, including mixing ingredients for customer and local business orders. Assisted customers with service and handled shop orders.
Supported stock handling by unpacking and organizing deliveries of beef, chicken, pork, and lamb. Prepared products for sale by cutting, bagging, and cryovac sealing meat and bones, including packaging bones for pet consumption. Completed local deliveries, including transporting meat products to Maiden Gully IGA and supplying brisket to local cafes.
Maintained cleanliness of the workspace by thoroughly cleaning floors and equipment at the end of each day, including scraping and hosing down machinery.
What You Learned:
I learned that different beef cuts have varying meat-to-fat ratios and are processed in different ways depending on their use, such as for sausages, burgers, or regular mince. I also learned how to make sausages, serve customers properly, and operate the EFTPOS machines in the butcher facility.
Words of Appreciation:
I would like to sincerely thank Deb Hancock for supporting students through the Structured Workplace Learning program.
During my placement, I have gained a wide variety of skills that can be applied across many different jobs. The staff are incredibly helpful, patient, and generous with their time, and I am able to learn a great deal from everything they teach me.
This experience helps me develop important skills in hospitality, including taking care of people and improving both my workplace and personal skills, such as food preparation and learning different techniques.
Thank you for supporting Wedderburn College students and for providing such valuable workplace opportunities.
