Year 5 Speech Reflections
Year 5 Speech Reflections
This term year 5 have been making our captaincy speeches. It took a long time to practice and perfect our speeches but eventually, we did it. But even when we did our speech It was still pretty nerve racking, standing up there in front of the school while saying our speech. We still all did an amazing job. We also made our captaincy posters a couple of weeks ago. We had to put our top three preferences on there and reasons why we would be well fit for the role. We also got to put a joke or two in them too. We all took a lot of time and effort to do it and we all did a great job with our speeches.

Dear newsletter,
This year year 5 applied for school captaincy roles and it was challenging, fun, and nerve racking.
We started by writing letters to Mrs mason. When doing these they were more formal and appealing to her about our good qualities.
Next, we did our posters which were really fun. We would add jokes, images, and text. They went up in Week 7, then we got to have a break until speeches. I spent lots of time on my speech writing and practicing. Speech time came at 11:55. It was almost my turn at this point. My head was sinking to my stomach and I've got butterflies in my stomach. Eventually, I finished and it was an absolute relief.

YEAR 5 SPEECH CAPTAINCY NEWSLETTER
Hello parents, and grandparents this week year five has had a very busy week, especially with Captaincy speeches. Year five has been working so hard on their speech we are so lucky to have our brilliant teachers to help us out. Every person in our class spoke exceptionally well and they tried really hard with all the speeches. Also, we have our Christmas picnic today and everyone has tried their best with their dances. We were all so nervous. And I am sure we all had butterflies in our belly and I could see everybody's hand shaking like they just put them in an ice bucket.

This term year five has been working on their skills for captaincy roles next year. All the work has led up to the speeches we did on Monday. First, we took surveys to hear student voices about what they want in our school next year, then we worked on our public speaking skills so we spoke in front of the whole class, you could have written about your pet, a funny moment and more. Then it was the real deal and we got a lot of help from Mr.Cleary and practiced A LOT. Overall it was very nerve racking and a fun experience at the same time.

This term we are all focusing on our captaincy posters, letters to Mrs Mason, and most importantly, our speeches. For our speeches, we used many methods and found ways to modify our speeches. We learnt about many different ways to persuade our audience and this includes; adding jokes, promising to add new stuff, telling them your reasons, and building a connection with your audience. We made sure to perfect it by editing it and reviewing it as much as possible. We also spent tons of time practicing and sharing it to make sure that we didn’t mess up on the day. Although no matter how much we practiced or edited it definitely couldn’t overcome the fear on the day of the speech. But once I got up there I was much more confident because I knew how it felt and for the rest of the speech I wasn’t nervous or scared.

On Monday Year 5's finally did their captain's speeches that we have been working very hard on. For a few weeks, we barely had much time to prepare with our busy schedule but we tried our hardest even if that meant practising at home . We were all very nervous but I was just relieved to be done, and I went third, which I was very happy with. I thought I spoke quite well and so did everybody else. While we were speaking our poster showed up on the screen above us which we worked hard on designing and writing down our 3 preferences.
