F-2
This term the students have embarked on their STEM learning journeys for 2025. They have learnt what STEM stands for and what they will be learning in this subject. We discussed what Science is and what scientists do. We talked about how everyone is a scientist, you just need to have a curious mind that wants to discover, explore, experiment and ask curious questions to guide learning! The students had an immersion into the subject, and they experimented with magnets, slime, kinetic sand, three-dimensional building using different materials and using cars to create forces of motion on different surfaces!
3-6
This term the 3-6s were introduced to the new STEM set up for this year. The students discussed what Science is and what interesting occupations there are that scientists do such as Meteorologists, Geologists, Botanists, Archaeologists, Astronomers and so many more. We discussed the different Sciences we will be covering this semester, such as Physics and Chemistry. We also discussed safety in the lab and some expectations we will adhere to as a community. The students then got to do some 3D engineering builds using toothpicks and Blue tack, kinetic sandcastle making, slime stretching and working out why some materials are magnetic and others are not. The iron filings were very engaging to some. This engaged their senses and sparked some interest into some of the projects this year. The 3-6s were given a new report book that will be used to record data, make observations, ask questions and write experiments. The student’s enthusiasm for the coming year is to be commended!
FOUNDATION:
Students in Foundation have settled in so well and have already completed two sessions of Art :)
They worked hard on completing a self portrait and decorated their Art portfolios. I was so impressed with the drawing capability of the students, keep up the good work!
GRADE 1/2:
Students in Grade 1 and 2 have started their self portraits using a template to assist them with their facial shape. They needed to ensure they included all facial features (e.g. eyes, nose, mouth) and any other unique features they have (e.g. glasses, earrings).
GRADE 3/4:
Students in Grades 3 and 4 are working on an abstract self portrait, including their photos and a neon background, made from crayons and watercolour paint. These are looking amazing already and I can't wait to see the finished product.
GRADE 5/6:
Students in Grade 5/6 have been practising drawing themselves using mirrors. They are looking at shapes to help them to complete this task. They will also begin a self portrait, finishing half of their face using symme
Physical Education [PE] is a tremendous way to get students active while also teaching them important life skills, improve their physical health, and develop a love for being active.
During PE, students will:
- focus on fundamental skills [e.g. running, catching, balance]
- play games to reinforce the skills
- foster social skills
- celebrate their efforts, building confidence and a love for sport.
Each session will have a:
- warm-up activity to get their muscles ready
- skill development activity
- fun game - teamwork and cooperation.
We have started PE this term by playing students’ favourite games, teaching the skill of running, and for the 5/6s playing Interschool Sports.
Foundation A/B students have embarked on an exciting journey to explore the Spanish-speaking world, using maps and flags to locate and recognise different cultural aspects of these countries. They have also practiced expressing different Spanish greetings through songs and videos that will encourage them to use the language as they move forward. Students have generally responded well to classroom interactions and are expected to embrace new experiences while continuing to value their own culture.
Grade 1/2 students have participated and engaged in a series of activities that have helped them review previous sessions and refresh words and expressions learned last year. They have had lots of fun singing the song HOLA, HOLA! which has now become an intro for all Spanish sessions every week. All students have been working on common classroom instructions in Spanish. LEVÁNTATE & SIÉNTATE if you got to this point!!
Grade 3/4 students have developed different activities to review previous knowledge of the Spanish language. All students have customised their favourite 'shoe' printable (some brand-new kicks!) with their favourite things to do. Similarly, 3/4s have done a great job working on classroom instructions while using their new Spanish books to take notes from the slides. Then, students used those notes to complete a worksheet with 'fill in the missing letter' activities.
Grade 5/6 students are eager to continue with the Spanish program this year. They are looking forward to having 'FIESTA DAY/SPANISH DAY' this year, a day full of fun, learning, AND food!! All students have worked on reviewing previous sessions and have now started to work on booklets, which promotes social interaction and challenges, focusing on solving different Spanish puzzles and grammar/spelling games.
Overall, our students have immersed themselves in a variety of activities designed to help them recognise and understand the importance of embracing other cultures and respecting the values of being in a multicultural environment. They have also discovered fascinating similarities between the English, Spanish, and even Arabic languages, reflecting on how different words and cultural practises vary across the world.
¡Adiós amigos!
