Grade 5/6

We have had a wonderful start to 2025 in the 5/6 area. We welcome Miss Bishop and Miss Cerra to the 5/6 Community. They will be grade sharing the 5/6B class this year. Miss Bishop will be working with 5/6B on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Miss Cerra will be working with 5/6B on Thursdays and Fridays.
Over the last 2 weeks the 5/6 classes have been setting up their learning spaces to show our school values as well as the expectations we have agreed upon to ensure our community is a safe place for all to learn. Each class has created a Community Focus Plan as well as a Classroom Agreement that has been signed by all. We have also introduced our Zones Wall, where students are encouraged to check in during the day so that they
and others are aware of how they are feeling. It has been wonderful to see the conversations and accountability the students have taken regarding their emotions and how to deal with any issues that may arise. Great Effort 5/6!

We have so many exciting things happening this term in the 5/6 space. We have our first interschool sports game this Friday against Dallas Brooks Primary School. It is an away game, which means we will be travelling by bus at 9am Friday morning. Both students and staff are very excited for this opportunity and we have all been training hard to get ready for our games.
The summer sports for Term 1 are Basketball, Cricket, Volleyball and Tee Ball. We look forward to this week and we’re sure our students will try their best and display our school values of Kindness, Respect and Learning Together.
We have been busy in the 5/6 space listening to the speeches of nominated students for Sports Captains. We are so proud of each student who stood up and gave a speech trying to persuade the teachers and leaders why they should be a Sports Captain. It was an extremely difficult decision, as there were so many outstanding nominations. Our Sports Captains for 2025 are:
Yellow House Captains - Huda Vice Captains - Ella O and Grace
Red House Captains - Nermin and Sakchym and Vice Captains - Mirna M and Aries
Blue House Captains - Zayn and Nadin, Vice Captains - Caleb and Nida
Green House Captains - Aaron and Musa, Vice Captains - Abu and Adeel
At this week’s whole school assembly these students will be presented with their badges. Please come along at 2.30pm to support our students.
Other leadership roles have also been allocated this week. We listened to students who were nominated for Wellbeing Leadership Roles and Sustainability Leadership Roles. All the nominees worked hard at delivering their speeches and should be extremely proud of their efforts.
The leaders for Wellbeing and Sustainability are…
Wellbeing Leaders: Triston, Mareeha, Maya, Safiya, Kavya, Hiyam
Sustainability Leaders: Hyat, Dima, Amar, Adela, Hosanna, Erva
At this week’s whole school assembly these students will be presented with their badges. Please come along at 2.30pm to support our students.
With such a wonderful start to 2025 it has been difficult to nominate just one student who has displayed the school values. We want to congratulate each 5/6 student on such a positive and focused start to 2025. Listed below are 3 students (one per home group) that have consistently shown one or more of our school values over the last 2 weeks. Amazing Effort!
5/6A - Learning Together, Benson, for always being willing to help others as well as consistently participating in whole class learning conversations.
5/6B - Learning Together, Nihal, for working diligently on all tasks and being a great role model.
5/6C - Learning Together, Nadin, for always helping others and trying her best.
At this week’s whole school assembly these students will be presented with their values certificates. Please come along at 2.30pm to support our students.
On Thursday the 5/6 students will be taking home their first homework task. Homework will go out on Thursday and is to be returned on Tuesday, the following week. Homework in 5/6 is very important as it gives the students responsibility over their own learning, which is an important skill to have as they start high school. If your child is having trouble with the homework please come and see the classroom teacher. We will be keeping a record of who is completing the homework each week, those who have completed the homework regularly will get a special reward at the end of term.
