Since the start of school our Foundation students have been exploring their new classrooms, making new friends, learning our school/classroom routine and engaging in meaningful of learning opportunities. Our students have worked very hard on their resilience over the past fortnight and have done an amazing job of settling into school and we are so excited for the year ahead.

Our Wednesday testing period continues until the week starting the 24th of February. Please check your blue cards to ensure you do not miss your child's appointment date and time. If you are unsure, please come and see Miss Nealy or Miss Tognon.

Our Specialist subjects this year are Sport with Ms Cerra, Spanish with Señor Esteban, Art with Mrs Webb and STEM with Ms Tree. Sport and Spanish are on a Monday, whilst Art and STEM are on Thursday mornings. On Friday's at 2:30 pm we have an assembly, either a F-2 cohort or whole school assembly in which families are encouraged to attend.

Literacy

This term in Literacy we will be focusing on developing our understanding of stage 1 and 2 letters. In Foundation we follow the Little Learners Love Literacy program to support our teaching. Students will learn letters in stages that will allow them to develop their phonemic awareness, and ability to segment and blend words to read and write them. Within our writing sessions there will be a focus on building students fine motor skills in order to support their pencil grip and handwriting skills. Over the past fortnight we have started exploring the letters m and s. Students have engaged in a range of activities to support their understanding of these letters including sound sorts, art immersion and sound boxes.

In Numeracy we are currently exploring 2D shapes. As the term progresses we will move on to pattern and number. Our Foundation students have been exploring shapes including circles, squares, rectangles and triangles through games, craft experiences and explicit teaching. When talking about 2D shapes we have had a focus on the different features of each shape including the number of sides, and corners each shape has.
