What's happening in Boarding?

Weekend Rec Activities

Hyjinx Hotel Amusement Centre:

In Week 5 the girls had a blast at the Hyjinx Hotel amusement centre for their Sunday afternoon outing. They were first challenged with an escape room, split into two teams they took on different challenges ranging from sinking ships to ball pits. Competition levels were high with team Romeo taking the win. The girls then had lots of fun playing putt putt golf enjoying the immersive and uniquely themed holes. The trip was finished in the afternoon with a fun, singalong filled bus journey back to the boarding house.

Kambala Boarders visit Bondi Junction!

Last weekend, March 9 2025, the Kambala Boarders enjoyed an exciting afternoon at Westfield Bondi Junction, indulging in some retail therapy. With a variety of shops to explore, the girls took the opportunity to browse their favourite stores, pick up some essentials, and even spoil themselves with a few special purchases.

After an afternoon of shopping, many took the chance to relax and enjoy a bite to eat, whether it was sushi, smoothies, or a well-deserved sweet treat. Laughter and excitement filled the air as the girls bonded over their finds and shared styling tips.

It was a fantastic way to unwind and enjoy time together outside the boarding house. We look forward to our next adventure!

Boarders Shine at Senior School Cross Country

On Wednesday, February 27th, the school held its annual Senior School Cross Country at Centennial Park. A dedicated group of boarders woke up early to participate in what promised to be a morning full of exercise, fun, and the chance to qualify for the interschool competition. Not to mention, it was a great opportunity to earn valuable points for their respective houses.

The first race of the day was for the 17-18 year olds. Poppy (Y12) and Polly (Y12) ran exceptional races on the challenging 4 km course, finishing in first and second place, respectively. Their strong performances were a fantastic achievement.

Mrs. Andrew participated in the senior girls' race in support of the Boarders. As staff we believe in role modeling participation and promoting exercise as part of a healthy daily routine.

In the 15-16 year race, Eva (Y10) and Victoria Ullmer (Y9) put in a tremendous effort. Both secured second place in their age groups in a race that was fast-paced and fiercely

contested.

Overall, the participation from the Boarding house was truly impressive. We were especially proud of Sonia (Y8), who participated in her first cross country race. Her willingness to challenge herself and embrace new activities is something we all admire.

Well done to all the boarders who competed, and thank you for showing such great school spirit and dedication!

Nutrition Talk

In week 6, Senior Dietician Rachel Grey from Cater Care came to speak to the boarding group at formal dinner.

Cater Care takes the nutrition of the students very seriously. Their ability to perform, plus their physical, emotional and mental health are all impacted by the diet they consume.

Rachel delivered two presentations : the first one on 'Fueling Minds for Success' for all Yr 7-12 students and the second one on 'Healthy Eating for Immunity' to our new Boarding students who are navigating food choices for the first time.

The  menu is constantly being reviewed with constructive feedback from the Boarding students and Staff and we regularly make changes/additions when required. During Rachel’s visit, shel was able to review the operation of the Cater Care healthy eating program which follows the recommendations of the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating.

Rachel was met with many enthusiastic questions from the room and we thank her for joining us on the night.

Fernbank Fun

As the summer heat lingers, our boarders have been making the most of the warm weekend nights by using the school swimming pool. The pool has become the perfect spot to unwind and cool off after a busy week of activities and studying. Whether it's a quiet swim or a fun-filled splash with friends, the pool provides a much-needed escape from the summer heat. It’s been a great way for everyone to relax, socialize, and make the most of the beautiful weather. Here's to more evenings filled with laughter, swimming, and good memories!

Where are they now?

Annie Ma, Head Boarding Prefect and OG 2017

Hello! I’m Annie, I graduated in 2017 and I was a Boarder from Year 7 to Year 12 at Kambala. In year 12, I was Head Boarding Prefect, which was a pretty special experience.

After high school, I started an Arts/Commerce degree at Melbourne Uni (boring, I know!), but ended up surprising everyone by switching to University of Sydney, where I spent five years becoming a dietitian. Now I work as a Public Health Dietitian at NSW Health, specifically working on government initiatives and projects that help people improve their health – something I’m really passionate about!

One of my favourite moments at work was at Concord Hospital, where I helped interpret for an 80 year old Chinese speaking grandma who had been stuck in isolation for three days due to Covid. When I saw her, she was so relieved to finally have someone who understood her and treated me like her granddaughter whenever I suited up in my covid protective gear to visit her.

I had no idea where I’d end up when I graduated, but every decision (even the wrong ones!) helped me figure it out. My advice to all the current Boarders at Kambala is to try things, take risks, and trust that you’ll find your way.

Wishing you all the best!

Annie
