Year 5 Report

Term 4 2024

Congratulations to the entire Grade 5 cohort on an exceptional year! May you all enjoy a relaxing and well-deserved break. We applaud the achievements of our Grade 5 students and take great pride in the learning milestones they have reached.

Grade 5/6 Camp

Grade 5 students attended camp at the start of this term and had an incredible adventure with lots of amazing experiences.

The Art Show

The Art Show showcased the brilliance and talent of our students. It was a truly remarkable evening, credited to the dedication and hard work of both the students and their Art teachers.

Maths

Fractions and Decimals

During this term in Mathematics, students explored the areas of fractions and decimals. They solve problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions using their understanding that fractions are part of a whole. They furthered their knowledge of fractions by solving problems which involved connecting fractions, decimals and percentages.

Probability_

Students further explored the concept of probability during this term by planning and conduct statistical investigations. Students conduct chance experiments with decks or cards and dice and observed and recorded the results. They compared the outcomes to compare outcomes and estimate their likelihoods of the events occuring again.

Literacy

Biographies

During this term we looked at the structure of a variety of biographies to understand the structure of a biography. Students then selected a significant Australian person from our colonial history to begin researching key information. Using the knowledge they had gained they followed the writing process to create their own biographies and share them with their peers.

Historical Narratives

During this term in our Literacy program, students developed the expertise to craft historical narratives. Students needed to include information they had learnt from our inquiry unit on Australia's colonial history. They showcased their creations publishing their work and sharing their stories with their peers.

Speeches

Students presented their leadership speeches before their peers and the school leadership staff. Well done to all participants, and congratulations to the 2024 school leaders who will represent the school in the coming year.

Wishing you a rejuvenating school holiday, and we hope that our Grade 5 students have a fantastic final year at RPPS next year!

Kind Regards,

The Grade 5 Team
