Primary Year 5 Class Mass

Friday 5 April, Year 5 celebrated their Term 1 Class Mass. The students are to be commended for their active participation in the Mass.

We thank Father Curran for his guidance and support in all we do.

Easter Season

We are currently in the Easter Season which lasts from Easter Sunday until Pentecost Sunday. It is a time of great joy as we celebrate Jesus rising to new life. This week the colour on our prayer focuses changed to white to reflect the Liturgical Season of Easter.

On Tuesday 2 April, Year 1 led a joyful Easter Sunday Liturgy celebrating Jesus rising to new life. This followed the Holy Week liturgies telling the story of Jesus’ last week on earth commencing on Palm Sunday led by Kindergarten to Jesus’ Last Supper led by Year 3 and 4, his time in prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane led by Year 2 and ending with the arrest, crucifixion and death of Jesus, after which his body was laid in the tomb led by Year 5 and Year 6.

Thank you to all of our wonderful teachers and students for leading our heartfelt liturgies and to Father Curran and all of the parents and friends who were able to join us for these special liturgies - your support is very much appreciated.

ANZAC Day

On ANZAC Day Thursday 25 April Australians and New Zealanders everywhere stop to remember, honour and pray for all who gave their lives in war and fought for peace  in our world. On this day we also pray for peace in our world.

Living Well, Learning Well - Pastoral Care and Wellbeing

Legends of the Light Shine

Our Legends of the Light Shine focus for Weeks 10 and 11 is “Joy”. We are celebrating actions that bring joy to each and everyone of us. Often we are caught up in the general “busy” part of life and find ourselves rushing from one thing to another. Taking time to enjoy the many gifts we have and to share this joy with others helps us to have a positive sense of wellbeing and promote wellbeing within the community.

C2S Committee Meeting

“A true ecological approach always becomes a social approach; it must integrate questions of justice in debates on the environment, so as to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.” Pope Francis Laudato Si’ #49

Representatives from our C2S (Called To Shine) Committee, Year 5 students: Josie Duff and Logan Burrows and Assistant Principals: Cathy Shepherd and Jacquelene Cronin will be presenting at the Renewable Manilla Festival on Saturday 20 April, about the work the C2S Committee leads in the area of Integral Ecology at St Michael’s. This work is in response to the call to action from Pope Francis in Laudato Si’. At St Michael’s we answer this call to action in many practical ways that promote sustainable living, as we work to embed an integral ecological approach within our school culture. This approach includes growing our awareness of social justice issues, biodiversity and sustainable practices and identifying practical ways we can respond to these areas to contribute positively in our world.

St Michael’s has an holistic approach to educating the students in our care and environmental wellness is an integral part of this approach. We are an accredited Level 3 Australian Catholic Earthcare School and are currently working towards our Level 4 accreditation.

In 2015 Pope Francis wrote his second encyclical Laudato Si’ which focuses on an integral ecology, recognising that everything is connected, encompassing both social and ecological justice. Laudato Si’ calls all people in our world to action, to respond to both the “Cry of the Earth and the Cry of the Poor”. Laudato Si’ is supported by scientific evidence about the environmental crisis facing our world today and has received a lot of positive support from within the global scientific community.
