Citizen Science: City Nature Challenge

You're encourage to take part in the annual City Nature Challenge running from today, Friday 26 April, until Monday 29 April.

The challenge involves observing and recording plants, fungi and animals located in your local areas through iNaturalist

It is a great global initiative to generate appreciation and awareness of the incredible species we share our space with! Monash City Council encourages schools to participate by getting out into nature or even in your school grounds to undertake the challenge.

City Nature Challenge offers educational opportunities related to ecology and biodiversity and gives students the tools they need to record species and get involved in citizen science. The results gathered are even shared with real species databases, so their work will contribute to informing land managers and scientists about local urban biodiversity!

We hope to see your school participate and look forward to viewing your observations!

Recycling Bins

At EHPS, we are committed to supporting the Council's recycling program. Monash Council have supplied 11 yellow lid recycling bins and two bright green lid food waste bins. We aim to help educate students at school, so that they can help at home with waste management and sustainable living choices.

We rely on our Essex community to become a valued part of the program by rolling the bins onto the curb on the Sunday before collection on Monday mornings. The Term 2 roster has been published in a Compass News Feed, and is also displayed in the Community Notice board opposite the Library.

Please note: The bins cannot go out on Friday or Saturday, as we may receive a fine, or worse still, they may fall over and spill rubbish onto the surrounding area.

Please contact me if you are interested in participating; I will show you where the bins are kept and where they sit on the nature strip.
