Netball Gala Day
On Thursday 14 March, 44 Year 5 and 6 girls participated in a Netball Gala Day at Waverley Netball Centre. We mixed up the teams with the two other schools, so we got to meet new people and play together. It was really fun because we played different positions and learnt new skills. Each game had five minute halves and we changed positions every half. We played against every team in a fun and friendly game.
We had the incredible opportunity to meet some of the Melbourne Vixens, Mavericks and a few previous Diamond players. They shared their amazing stories about their journey to become great netball players and how tough it was when they were growing up.
Overall, it was a fun day meeting incredible netball players and playing netball with girls from other schools.

Tennis Tournament
On 6 and 7 April over the school holidays we represented Waverley District in the Wayne Arthurs Cup at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club. The Wayne Arthurs cup is a 10 year and under representative event against all other regions across Victoria. We were part of a four person team consisting of two boys and two girls. The team won the overall cup in a nail biting finish. Both grand finalists were tied and a deciding doubles super tie break was played to decide the winner with Waverley coming out on top 14-12!

School Sport Victoria – Victorian U12 Hockey Team
On the 3rd March I participated in the first trial with lots of different people around Victoria. In the first trial, there were roughly 70-80 people. I thought I did pretty well and on 5th March my Mum had told me that I had made it into the second trial. They cut half the number of people for the second trial.
It was really hot on the day and I had a fever. I took Nurofen in the early morning before the trial. Two days later my Mum received an email saying I had advanced into the third trial. I was happy as this was my goal to reach the third round. In the third round I was lucky to have lots of opportunities to play fullback for my team. Even though my team lost I thought I had played well. Three days after the trial, it was announced on the SSV hockey website that I had been selected in the state team. My fellow teammate also made it too. Fourteen players plus four emergencies make up the state team. It was a wonderful experience.
On the 18th August I am going to Cairns and will represent Victoria to play in the national championships. I am looking forward to this exciting tournament.
Thank you to Ms Hocking, Miss Kemp and Mr Perini for nominating me to do the trials and supporting me. Also thank you to my parents for driving me to all the trials in Parkville and supporting me.

House Cross Country
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the House Cross Country last Friday, 19 April. It was fantastic to see so many students completing the course irrespective of where they placed. Special mention to Olivia L in Year 6 who showed great determination to complete the course with Ruby W accompanying her. There were lots of examples of amazing sportsmanship along the way and at the finish line.
The District team will be announced by the end of the week with the top fastest in the 9/10, 11 and 12/13 age groups. Those students who were absent on Friday will have the opportunity to be timed if they choose and their times will be compared.
Special thanks to Miss Kemp for clearing the wet track so it was safe to run. Thanks to Miss Boles for making the tags for all the students and the staff for their assistance marking the tags and escorting students around the course.
A huge thanks to the following parent volunteers who marshalled the course, ensuring the students were safe running around the track: Jayme Smyth, Jenni Dowling, Cindy Wood, Sa Feng, Edwina McCarthy, Kelly Lukies, Victor Tan, Carrie Giacometti, Kenea Dhillon, Peter Haritos, Karen Ma, Pamela Mujica and Divya Kikkeri Hiriyanna. Your support is greatly appreciated as without your assistance we wouldn’t be able to run such events!
