Welcome to Term 2!! We hope everyone had a wonderful break and are excited to be back at school. We have had a great first few days, catching up with our friends and getting back into our busy school routines.

Literacy: 

Foundation:

In English this term, Prep students will continue to focus on using strategies to support them develop their reading skills. These will include using illustrations to gain meaning from a text, decoding words, recognising punctuation and using greater fluency and expression when reading aloud.. In writing students will continue to familiarise themselves with recounts and they will be introduced to narratives and the main components including orientation, problem and solution. 

 

Year One and Two: In Writing, the students will revisit a variety of techniques to assist them in the development on their writing. We will continue to revisit narratives and recounts, whilst diving into a new writing concept, information reports. In Reading, we will continue focussing on the Science of Reading, exploring phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary and reading comprehension. 

 

Maths

Foundation: In Maths, students will learn about the features of 2D and 3D shapes and make connections to these in real life situations. Eg shapes in the classroom and on the playground. Number recognition and the place value of numbers will continue to be a focus as they learn to apply this to addition and subtraction problems. 

 

Year One and Two: This term we will learn about and revisit a variety of mathematics concepts. We will revisit number and algebra, focussing on addition, subtraction and Money and Financial mathematics. We will also learn about measurement, particularly Mass, time, seasons and calendars.  

 

InquiRE

Foundation: In Religion, students will be introduced to and explore various versions of the Creation story, allowing them to make deeper connections with our inquiry concept and the world around them. They will learn about Mary and why she is such an important and significant figure in the Catholic faith. Pentecost will also be a focus this term. Our Inquiry unit will explore the concept of sustainability. Students will learn about the importance of caring for our world and the simple actions they can take to look after our world by making positive contributions.

 

Year One and Two: The InquiRE focus for Term 2 is Sustainability. The students will learn how to reduce, reuse and recycle as they consider the importance of sustainability.  We will focus on God the creator who is present in all of creation As well as exploring the first creation account in Genesis to learn about God as creator, the goodness of creation and creation as a reflection of God’s love and goodness.

 

In Year One and Two, the students explored the school yard and chose objects from nature to display on our classroom prayer tables. 

SEL: 

In SEL students will be encouraged to establish new friendships with their peers and to continue to understand what positive relationships look like. The focus will remain on following school expectations and being safe, responsible and respectful at all times. 

Students will recognise that there are many ways to solve conflict and practice individual and group decision-making. They will be exposed to different strategies to assist in solving simple, interpersonal problems. 

 

Foundation -Greetings and Chinese Numbers 1-10

Foundation students will greet, ask and tell each other’s name and age in Mandarin. They will learn how to count from one to ten with special finger gestures, and practice manners and class expressions including “Please”, “Thank you”, “Sorry”,“That’s okay’ and ‘No worries’ in Mandarin. They are going to explore how differenttones playing a key part in Mandarin pronunciation.

 

Year One and Two –Term topic: Greetings and Chinese Numbers 1-10

Year One and Two students will greet, ask and tell each other’s name and age in Mandarin. They will learn how to read and write Chinese numbers from zero and one to ten and, be aware that Chinese characters are formed by strokes. They are practising good manners and class expressions including making apologies and express gratitude in Chinese. They are going to explore how different tones playing a key part in Mandarin pronunciation.

 

Physical Education - Foundation

In Term 2, Prep students will continue to learn fundamental movements of their bodies. This includes jumping, skipping, running, and balancing.

Prep students will be introduced to soccer and football activities this Term, where we will slowly integrate fun sessions that develop kicking, throwing, and catching. It is important to note that Prep students are still in the cognitive stage of learning within sport, as they are learning brand new skills!

 

Physical Education - Year One / Two

In Term 2, Year One /s will be continuing to develop their fundamental motor skills in kicking, catching, throwing, shooting, and striking. 

Students will be focusing on soccer, and football. Students will be taught the simple rules of these sports, and the correct movements that will allow them to develop specific skills and more enjoyment of the sport.

In Week 5 students will be completing motor skill testing as well as the beep test.
