Queensland Athletics State Championships

Stepping onto the track with determination, four talented athletes from Clayfield College are poised to make their mark at the upcoming Queensland Athletics State Championships from Thursday 14 March to Sunday 17 March. Chloe Noon, Isabella McDonnell-Baum, Hayley Colless and Demi De Tournoeur are all set to compete in various events, eyeing national qualifiers to secure a spot at the upcoming Chemist Warehouse Australian Athletics Championships in Adelaide, scheduled from 11 to 19 April. Fuelled by determination and a fierce spirit, these young athletes are poised to unleash their in-season training and preparation.

Chloe Noon: U18 2000m Steeple and 1500m Events

Chloe, a standout athlete, is ready to take on the challenge in the U18 2000m Steeple and 1500m Track events. Driven by a relentless pursuit to clock personal bests (PBs) and clinch a coveted spot in the national championships, Chloe's unwavering dedication and tireless efforts shine through. Her laser focus underscores her unwavering commitment to gear up for the pinnacle of competition on the national stage in April. 

Isabella McDonnell-Baum: Soaring High in the U20 Long Jump

Isabella is set to showcase her talent and athleticism in the U20 Long Jump event. With her sights set on securing a spot at the national championships, Isabella's determination knows no bounds. Her dedication to perfecting her craft and pushing her limits highlights her readiness to compete at the highest level.

Hayley Colless: Overcoming Hurdles U16 90m and 200m Events

Hayley is primed to take on the challenges of both the U16 90m and 200m Hurdle events. With a keen determination to overcome obstacles and establish fresh personal bests, Hayley epitomises resilience and a steady resolve. Her relentless pursuit of excellence and determination to secure her spot at the national championships underscore her unwavering commitment throughout her lead-up preparation for the championships. 

Demi de Tournoeur: Sprinting and Flying in the U15 100m, 200m, and High Jump

Demi is set to unveil her speed and noteworthy agility in the U15 100m and 200m Sprints, as well as the High Jump event. With an aim to surpass her personal bests and secure a spot in the national championships, Demi's unwavering dedication and fervent passion for athletics radiate brightly. Her relentless pursuit of perfection and determination position her as a formidable contender throughout the championships. 

 

As these four exceptional athletes step onto the starting line at the Queensland Athletics State Championships with their sights firmly fixed on national qualification, they are poised to make an indelible impression. Their determination, relentless dedication, and infectious passion for their sport serve as a beacon of inspiration. We unite in support of these young athletes and wish them all the best throughout the Championships. 

QGSSSA Artistic Gymnastics Championships

Get ready to witness the electrifying athleticism and grace as our we gear up to host the highly anticipated QGSSSA Artistic Gymnastics Championships, set to take place in the PE Centre on Tuesday, 26 March. Anticipation fills the air as our stellar gymnasts, prepare to showcase their unparalleled talent alongside esteemed competitors in the prestigious QGSSSA Championships.

 

QGSSSA Autumn Fixtures

In a thrilling start to the Queensland Girls' Secondary Schools Sports Association (QGSSSA) Autumn fixtures, our Basketball, Football and Touch Football teams showcased their determination on courts and fields against Ipswich Girls Grammar School. 

 

Basketball

The basketball courts were alight with energy as players dribbled, passed, and shot their way to victories in the Senior B, Year 8B and 7A competitions. CC teams set the tone for the season ahead, with every possession counting. The CC Opens teams brought their 

A-game, eager to dominate the court. However, their opponents were equally fierce, determined to defend and secure the first win of the season, with our Opens recording a narrow loss IGGS 35 – CC 30. 

 

Football

On the football pitch, the intensity was nothing short of electrifying. With precision passes, strategic plays, and unwavering teamwork, each side vied for control of the ball and ultimately, the scoreboard. Ipswich Girls Grammar undoubtedly presented a formidable challenge in the Opens division, with Clayfield recording a loss. The Intermediate team prepared to meet every advance, leaving nothing on the field recorded a Round 1 win against IGGS. 

 

Touch Football

In the realm of touch football, speed, agility, and quick thinking are the name of the game. As the first whistle blew and games got underway, there was evidence of sheer determination from both schools. Players sprinted across the fields, evading opponents’ touches and aiming for the try line. Ipswich Girls Grammar tried to outmanoeuvre with their slick moves and precision passes, but Clayfield teams were prepared to meet every advance. Despite facing losses in their respective matches, both the Opens and 8A teams have regrouped and are fully focused on their upcoming challenge in Round 2 against Brisbane State High School. 

 

With the stakes high and the competition fierce, the QGSSSA Autumn fixtures promise to deliver what is sure to be an action-packed season of sporting rigour. So, buckle up and get ready for Round 2 against Brisbane State High School. 

BBI Club Basketball

The boys' BBI Club Basketball team concluded their summer season triumphantly, securing a thrilling 14-13 victory against the Cheetahs. Through the guidance of coaches Mitch Hayward and Brodie Meis, the team has developed significantly, honing their skills, and gaining valuable experience. Now, their focus shifts towards preparing for the upcoming Winter season, with the program welcoming boys in Years 5-8. For additional details, please refer to the College App.

Britton Shield Touch Football

The Britton Shield Touch Football teams took to the fields at Jim Finimore Park for the inaugural Britton competition. With nimble footwork and precision passing, the Britton Shield boys took on their opposition, showcasing their preparation. Every player worked tirelessly to support their teammates, whether it was providing crucial blocks, making timely interceptions, or setting up scoring opportunities. As the final whistle blew, echoing across the park, it was clear that the Britton Shield boys had a great day playing against Ipswich Junior Grammar School and Moreton Bay Boys’ College.
