SPORT NEWS: KINGSTON DIVISION

YEAR 8 GIRLS BADMINTON - KINGSTON DIVISION CHAMPIONS

On Friday 21 June the Year 8 Girls Badminton team played finals.

We cruised against the match with Sandringham but had to fight hard against Westall. The match finished on three games all, 108 points all and the same percentage which meant it was a draw!

We then had to play one extra doubles game which we WON 15-12 points.

We are all very excited to progress to the Southern Metro Regional finals on Thursday 15 August at Springers.

Thanks to Mrs Hooper for her coaching and support.

MSC YEAR 7 BOYS BADMINTON TEAM TRIUMPHS IN KINGSTON DIVISION FINALS

On Tuesday 25 June, the Year 7 Boys Badminton Team from McKinnon Secondary College achieved a remarkable victory in the Kingston Division Badminton Finals and will be playing Regionals sometime during August. The talented team consisting of Mawson YangJerry Huynh, Devin Xie, Dylan Li, Marcus Yuen and myself Ayush Mukherjee, all displayed exceptional skill and teamwork to secure their wins.

The finals took place at the Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre (GESAC), a venue renowned for hosting competitive sporting events. The McKinnon team faced off against Parkdale Secondary College and Sandringham Secondary College, both formidable opponents. However, the boys from McKinnon were easily able to overcome them, showcasing their skill on the court using various strategic plays.

In both matches, McKinnon Secondary College dominated with a combined score of 5 - 1 in sets including 3 singles matches and 2 doubles matches. I played 2 singles games winning comfortably with both of my scores being 21 - 11 against Sandringham and 21 - 13 against Parkdale. Each player contributed significantly to the team’s success, demonstrating not only individual talent but also a deep understanding of collaborative effort.

Jerry and Mawson, in particular, were noted for their powerful smashes and agile footwork, while Dylan and Devin showcased divine skills and amazing communication while playing their doubles games, winning each game with ease. Marcus was also in formidable form, being able to reach every side of the court and excelling in his defensive strategies with deadly precision proving to be vital in clinching the victory.

The comprehensive victories against Parkdale and Sandringham boldly underline the strength and ability of achieving anything of the McKinnon Secondary College team. Their success is a testament to the hard work and rigorous training which they have put through this term and thanks to Mr Woolhouse for his constant supervision and guidance during the whole time.

This triumph not only brings pride to McKinnon Secondary College but also sets high hopes for everyone in the school for the Regionals competition to come in the future. The Year 7 Boys team has undoubtedly proved how unstoppable we are as a team and how we can reach higher heights when pursuing success, and a force to be known within the world of school badminton.

Congratulations to the Year 7 Boys Badminton team on their outstanding achievement. The school community eagerly awaits on the upcoming competition for their continued success to continue for Regionals and many other tournaments to come.
