Sports Day 2024

Sports Day report...

Sports Day, Thursday 28th April, 2024, was a huge success. The weather was perfect, students were engaged, and the school community came out to support. The day started with an energetic Health Hustle led by our team captains – Samuel and Suhani for Wattle, Himmat and Lexi for Banksia and Sophie and Caleb for Waratah. Following on from this, the students returned to their classes for their class events. The students enjoyed a couple of new events this year. The water relay was a particular favourite and many were happy to get wet along the way on a sunny day. It was wonderful to see students participating, trying their best, and supporting not only their own team, but other teams as well. The upstairs classes spent the morning participating in Athletics events to see if they could make the measurement requirements for SAPSASA later in the year. I was so proud to hear them encouraging each other and supporting those who were close to reaching their measurements.

Throughout the day the students showed our school values with pride and persevered with their own challenges.

The day concluded with a whole school baton relay and then year-level sprints. This was followed by the first-ever parents versus teachers relay, which became very competitive. There is always next year for the teachers to take this one out!

When it came time to announce the overall winners, the crowd became silent. It was a surprise to have Wattle take out both the overall team events and the values shield. Well done to Samuel and Suhani for leading their team to victory.

A word from the Captains...

We’re the team captains of Banksia, Lexi and Himmat. Even though our team didn’t win, our team still had an amazing time. We’re so happy and grateful that we got the chance to be the captains. We had an amazing last Sports Day at Marion Primary School as Year 6’s.

Yours dearly,

The captains of Banksia – Lexi and Himmat

Great effort everyone. Everyone did an egg-ceptional job at every event eggspecially the egg and spoon race. Jokes aside, everyone had a blast on Sports Day and everyone did an amazing job. Just like Mr Walmsley said in the morning, it’s not about who wins or loses it’s about participating and having fun.

From Samuel and Suhani, captains of Wattle.

Thank you everyone for coming to the 2024 Sports Day. Even though Waratah didn't win, we would like to say thank you for participating, putting in your best effort and encouraging others even though they were not in our team. We would like to say well done and good luck for next year. You might even be able to break the 14-year drought and help Waratah to win!

From Sophie & Caleb, captains of Waratah

Finally, a huge thank you to all the staff, students, volunteers and community members for their part in helping to make it an enjoyable day for all!
