Level 1 & 2 Wonga Weekly

Week 1, Term 2

WEEK 1 LEARNING IN...

📚 LITERACY

In Reading, we will be focusing on asking questions to help build our comprehension of the texts we read. This week, we will be focusing our questions on the mentor text, 'Dirt by Sea'. The text is a comic, and the story is told through the speech bubble conversations that the characters have and the visual images that are presented in each comic strip.

In Writing, we will be making connections to our mentor text. We will be revisiting our own holidays we have had with our families. We will be noticing the way that authors include speech in their texts and writing conversations of our own.

In Phonics, we will be focusing on the letters C & K; found at the start of words, at the end of words, and also together as a digraph (two letters together that make one sound) such as in track, pick and block.

What you can do at home

Please encourage your child to have a look at the Reading Eggs website. Spend some time investigating the great books that are available to read on the Reading Eggs Library.

Your child should have a copy of their password for this site pasted into the front of their Reading Log, for your reference.

🎲 NUMERACY

We will be exploring shape during Maths sessions. We will be recognising familiar shapes and objects in the environment, identifying the similarities and differences between shapes and classifying shapes according to their features.

💒 CBL - Country

This week we will introduce our new Big Idea for the term, 'Country'.

Students will answer the question, 'What is country?' and investigate our country including names of states, territories and cities, landscapes, places of significance, flora and fauna.

🌟 REMINDERS

In line with the Cancer Council recommendations, students are required to wear hats outdoors until Wednesday 1st May. Please ensure your child returns their hat to school, if they have taken it home over the holidays.

Our 'Golden Ten' in the morning (8.50am - 9am) is not only a time for you child to come into the classroom and set themselves up for learning, but also a designated time for teachers and parents to briefly hand over quick messages for the day. If you need to speak with the classroom teacher about other issues for an extended period, please make an appointment for another time.

We are excited to have parent helpers volunteering in our classrooms this term.  If you would like to help, you will need to participate in a 'Parent Helper's Information Session'. These will be held on Wednesday 24th April at 8:15am - 8:40am and Monday 29th April at 3:40pm – 4:10pm.

Just a reminder that anyone wishing to volunteer at Wonga Park Primary School (including volunteering as a Parent Helper) must complete this training annually before they can assist within our school community.
