Assessment provides evidence of how learners are progressing according to defined standards throughout a period of learning, as well as achievement at the end of the learning period.
Congratulations to our Year 7 students who successfully completed their NAPLAN assessments last week. It is important to remember that NAPLAN is not about passing or failing, but about assessing the learning progress of students in Year 7. Our College staff look forward to the results when available to assist in identifying specific support programs in literacy and numeracy for our students. Thank you also to Mrs Slater (Head of Learning) and Mrs Heffernan (Head of Diverse Learning) for their excellent organisation and smooth running of these assessments.
Just a reminder to our Year 7 parents that interim reports will be accessible via Compass by the end of the term.
Year 12 Assessment block – Monday, 25 March – Wednesday, 3 April
Year 11 Assessment block – Friday, 5 April – Friday, 12 April
I remind both Year 12 & Year 11 students to ensure they are prepared for the up-and-coming assessment periods before the end of term. Students have the responsibility of looking closely at the assessment timetable and being at the College well before the commencement of each assessment and using the time in between assessments wisely.
Post assessments - early next term it is crucial that students seek effective feedback that assists them to reflect on their learning from term 1 and then make adjustments to make better progress in their learning for term 2. I strongly encourage all students to enter into discussions with their classroom teachers to recognise what they have done well so far within these current assessment tasks but importantly identify areas for improvement.
The overall focus here for students should be on a sustained period of incremental improvement on their journey to the HSC Trials/HSC. Students who do this show great maturity for their learning, placing them well for post-school study.
We look forward to celebrating our Founder’s Day in the second week back of term 2 on Friday, 10 May. We will be celebrating Mass as a College community on this day at 9.30am at St Aloysius Parish Cronulla and I warmly invite parents and friends to join us on this day. More details of the day will be provided by our Dean of Mission - Mrs Therese Hughes for students and parents.
On behalf of myself and the College staff I would like to wish all parents/carers, students and staff a very happy, Holy Easter. We would also like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude for the support that you have all provided during this term.
Post Easter long weekend, the end of term 1 will have classes scheduled up and included on Friday, 12 April concluding at the normal time of 2.50pm.
Term 2: The first day of classes for term 2 will be on Tuesday, 30 April as staff will be engaged in a staff development day on cultural competency on Monday, 29 April. Please contact the College office if you need your child to be supervised on the staff development day.
As always…Up Up Cronulla.
God Bless.
