Year 8 Language Support Excursion to the Melbourne Aquarium

On Friday the 10th of October, Year 8 Language Support students visited the Sea Life Aquarium where they participated in the Classification Program. They learnt about how animals are classified, their behaviours, life cycles, foods, breeding habits and movement. They also learnt about how the Aquarium cares for the variety of animals in their care and the importance of the ecosystem. The students also had a focus lesson on the Penguins, seeing them on their nests and watching them steal pebbles from each other’s nests as well. Students were captivated by the creativity of the penguins in trying to impress their prospective partner penguins. Overall, it was an inspirational day which will lead to the students writing their own Information Reports.
Student Reflections
On Friday the 10th of October our Language Support class went to Sea Life and saw the sea life creatures, such as the glow in the dark jellyfish, seahorses and other creatures. Our overall favourites were turtles, sharks and penguins. After all that, we ate and it was an amazing experience!

On Friday the 10th of October our Language Support class had the opportunity to go to Sea Life to see the animals. First we went to the jellyfish. We saw an interesting one called the Upside-Down Jellyfish. Then we went to the tank where we saw lots of sharks and sea animals. We saw a Leopard Shark which was Adut’s favourite! After that we went to the penguins and learnt how they live and survive. The penguins were Mackenzie’s favourite! It was a very fun day and one we’ll remember forever.

On Friday the 10th of October our Language Support class went to Sea Life. We saw jelly fish and one of the workers explained and showed us all the process of how jelly fish are formed. I was very interested by it. He showed us tanks of jellyfish in different stages of growth. Afterwards, we went to a big tank of different types of sea animals such as sharks, sting rays, turtles, fish and many more. While we watched them swim, the staff member explained to us the proportion of food they give them, how they separate different animals in different tanks as well as answering all our questions. She also took us to see penguins. It was fun. She passed out paper with the names and birthdays of the penguins which was interesting because we could check if they had the same birthday as us. What a great day!
