Positive Behaviour Supports Every Learner
We are excited to share an important update to the way we nurture positive behaviour and learning in our school community. Next term we will introduced with our students our refreshed matrix for behaviour support - a clear, consistent framework that sets out the expectations for how we learn and play together every day.
Our approach draws on the evidence about what helps children thrive: consistency, predictability, and shared language. Students feel secure when they know exactly what is expected of them, and this strong foundation allows them to focus on what matters most - flourishing as individuals.
A key part of this refresh is our new Traffic Light Behaviour System. This chart helps students identify the choices that keep everyone in the 'green zone' for learning and recognise when behaviours might move them into the 'yellow' or 'red' zones. This approach prioritises learning, encouraging students to reflect on how their decisions help or hinder their own development and the positive atmosphere for everyone.
To deepen this approach, will also introduce Behaviour Reflection Forms. If a student completes a form, it will be sent home so parents can support a follow-up conversation. We value the partnership between home and school and believe these shared discussions are fundamental to each child’s development.
While we are not officially a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school, we are excited to be beginning the journey toward a whole-school PBL approach. This model celebrates positive choices, explicitly teaches expectations, and provides the consistency that children need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Together, we are building a culture where every child can flourish, every classroom is calm and productive, and every learner is supported to be their best self.
