Learning about food waste
Over the last two weeks, students across the school have been focusing their attention on becoming more aware about food waste. Students in our Foundation - Year 2 class began by reading the beautiful book 'Let's Eat!' by Ana Zamorano and Julie Vivas, a story about family feasts and eating food together. They then explored what foods they love to eat with their families, and which bin their food may end up in, the compost or the waste bin.
Year 3 - Year 6 students all looked at how Digital and Print Media, particularly the Ad campaigns of the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) can help us as a community understand what there is to know about the effect of food waste on our planet.
Produce Sale - Save the date Friday 31st Oct
Please support our Outdoor Education program!!
Last Friday, we ran a successful produce sale alongside the bake sale. We made $40 which will go towards buying more seeds and seedlings for the veggie garden. Next week we will hold the same produce sale again, this time, we will be selling:
- Pickled Radish
- Bath salts
- Scented drawer liners
- Choc-peppermint balls
- Lavender Scones
- More rhubarb, silver beet and herbs!
- If anyone has any items they wish to donate and we will sell them (lemons, herbs, flowers) please get in contact with the office or Edwina Mintern. All proceeds will go to developing more produce for the school community.
Thank you Morgan's IGA
In the spirit of reducing food waste, we've partnered with Morgan's IGA. They have kindly donated a number of seedlings that were no longer suitable for sale but are ideal for planting. Daniel Middlemast worked with IGA to rescue these plants and bring them to a place where we know they will be loved, Holy Cross! We're excited to know that we can help ensure nothing goes to waste and look forward to these wonderful gifts finding new life in our Outdoor Education Garden and our new plant hospital!
