Laura Jane's Message

Our St Gabriel's Primary School Acting Principal

Dear Families,

Yesterday we celebrated the Feast of Mary MacKillop. St Mary MacKillop followed the actions of Jesus, and shared love and kindness to every person she met, even when they were not kind to her. There are many examples of love and generosity that St Mary MacKillop showed others, especially the poor and those who needed to be loved.

Every year on 8th August, we remember Mary Mackillop’s words

“Never see a need without doing something about it.”

Inspired by our very own Saint, Mary of the Cross:

May we open our hearts to her inspiration in our lives and continue to reach out to those at the margins of our society.

With trust and hope, we pray.

We have been so blessed with the sunshine this week for a number of special events in our school.  The week began with our First Communion Celebration on Sunday.  We recognise this as a sacred moment in our children’s faith journey and it was such a privilege to celebrate with the First Communicants and their families. We will continue to keep these children in our thoughts and prayers in the coming months.

We have connected with Father Aurelio Fragapane who is a Priest working as a chaplain at St Gabriel’s Parish. He met with our First Communicants in the St Gabriel’s Church last week to support their preparation for their First Holy Communion.  We look forward to building our relationship with Father Fragapane.

There’s something magical about sunny days—they seem to amplify our happiness and energy. This week, on our 3/4 Long Day Camp and 5/6 Anglesea Camp, the sun’s gentle rays have made every moment feel like a celebration.  The children have embraced the new opportunities presented to each of them and pushed their limits with confidence and curiosity.  They have supported each other through challenges and celebrated each other’s achievements. One of our Year 5 boys reflected on camp and said, “Skateboarding was a new and challenging experience, but I found that when I relaxed, I really enjoyed it and I could feel myself improving.” As educators we love these rich learning experiences.  It is such an honour to share these moments with the children in our school community and we thank our parents for trusting us to care for your children.

We look forward to the Prep Breakfast and our Year 1/2 Dinner which is coming up very soon.

A sincere thank you to all our educators for their unwavering commitment and dedication. They show genuine joy in witnessing the children's courage and achievements during camps and special learning experiences.

We look forward to TheirCare beginning as our OSH Service on Monday 26th August.
