DISCOVERY, TERM 2 REFLECTION!

Last term our Discovery unit's big idea was 'Science as a Human Endeavour,' with the exciting topic 'You Can Save The World!' We kicked off by investigating what 'waste' and 'sustainable' mean, which gave us a chance to reflect on the resources vital to human life and understand why some of these resources are often wasted. This led us to learn about sustainable energy and its importance in preserving our planet. We then explored how weather conditions impact both human and animal habitats, discussed various ways to contribute to preserving our local and global environments, and investigated how world populations affect a country's sustainability.

A highlight of our term was selecting topics for our research projects. Students learned how to research relevant information about their chosen location or country. Miss Ansons showcased some fantastic 'Travel Websites' on 'Google Sites' created by past students, which served as inspiration for our projects. Students were eager to dive into using Google Sites to create their own travel websites, gaining hands-on experience in web design and digital storytelling.

As students embarked on creating their travel websites, they included diverse and engaging information about their chosen countries or regions. They explored differences in culture, environmental characteristics, travel distances and costs, accommodation options, places of interest, population, climate, food, tourist attractions, and the country's economy. This project not only enhanced their research skills but also fostered a deeper understanding and appreciation of global diversity and sustainability.

We are proud of all the students' hard work and enthusiasm and  final projects! Here are some links to the Websites students made on Google Sites and wanted to share in the newsletter. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did ☺️

TALK MONEY INCURSION!

Learning money lessons for life!

Talk Money is a financial education program that teaches young people money lessons for life, helps students be confident when talking about money and to make informed financial decisions. Delivered by trained facilitators, the workshops are aligned to the Australian curriculum and the National Consumer and Financial Literacy Framework.

The 5/6 students recently participated in the Talking about money workshops, where they talked about how people think, feel and act with money and learned about the HEARD framework to help them have constructive conversations about money. The Talk Money program, which included two interactive workshops designed to help Australian students learn about money!

Workshop A: Through a series of activities, students examine how people value money differently and how they can have constructive conversations with family and friends about money. They learn how to set savings goals as part of managing their money.

Workshop B: Students examine how to save and manage money and consider different payment options, including the digitisation of money.
