Admin Corner

By Daniel Itsines

Hello all, and welcome to another edition of the Admin Corner!

Today, we will be exploring an area of paramount importance - Traffic Management - in and around our school.

As a school, we have a duty of care to always ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students. This involves taking all reasonable actions to protect students from risk of harm that can be reasonably predicted, including safe traffic management control during drop off and pick up times. It is for this reason that we allocate staff at various checkpoints throughout the local area, set up bollards around our entrances and assist the crossing supervisors when required.

While we can put in place extensive initiatives such as those listed above to protect our students, we require your ongoing support to ensure that these outcomes are met, such as:

Turning Circle

As you will be aware, our main drop off and pick-up area is the Turning Circle connected to Brent Street. It is crucially important that you enter the car park slowly (5km/hr) and carefully. This is a No Standing Anytime zone and we ask that you observe this rule to ensure congestion is limited, and accidents avoided. To increase the safety in this area, we have recently introduced bollards to help guide traffic flow. To speed up the after school pickup process, we also ask that you remind your child that they are to wait near the gymnasium and not play with their friends on the basketball court or adventure playground.

Mountain View Carpark / Crossing High Street Road

We would like to remind you that we have an ongoing arrangement with the Mountain View Hotel, for our school community to use their car park. The arrangement states that our school community is to park in the white-lined parking area only please. From here, families can simply cross the road at the intersection of High Street and Springvale Road, to access our school. To provide the most appropriate modelling and to ensure the safety of the children and all family members, please ensure you cross at the crossing.

Stopping on the side of High Street Road or Springvale Road

Another very important safety and road law issue to be aware of is stopping on the side of High Street or Springvale Roads to drop off or pick up the children. This includes the bus stop lane on Springvale Road at the front of McDonalds. Not only is this behavior dangerous to all road users. The Police have also informed our school that they will fine anyone caught doing so. If you prefer not to leave your vehicle, we suggest using the Turning Circle.

McDonalds

The McDonalds car park adjacent to our school is strictly unauthorised for use as a car park for Glen Waverley Primary School families and visitors. Please respect this, as McDonalds is authorised to tow any trespassing cars away should they deem fit.

Thank you for taking the time to reflect on these very important Traffic Management discussion points. If you have any questions relating to the subject, please get in contact with us on 9802 9938 to discuss. Thank you for assisting us in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our wonderful students.

Warm regards,
