Literacy

By Neeraja, Nethra, Sam, Ronith, Kalana, Thinuli, Alisha, Siya, Rachel and Prisha.

4C has been exploring biographies and learning about Indigenous Australians during NAIDOC week. We have also been learning about trailblazers, such as Cathy Freeman and many more.

We wanted to show you our literacy learning because in Writing we were learning about  biographies, we are writing a biography about an Indigenous person that we are interested in learning about.

Sam: In my biography I am focusing on a renowned Indigenous Australian named David Unaipon.

Nethra: In my biography, I always add interesting details and words to add in my biography. (Albert Elea Namatjira) who is an Indigenous Australian. He is also an artist. I was interested in him because he is an artist and I like to do artworks too.

Neeraja: I wrote my biography about Jessica Mauboy, an Australian Singer and Songwriter. She placed second in Sony music Australia second in the 2006 Australian Idol. She is an inspiration for many aboriginal women and stands up for women’s rights. I loved writing about biographies!!!

Kalana: In my biography I am exploring Joshua Ross, an Olympic athlete that won sixth place in both 2004 and 2012 Olympics. Joshua Ross won 100m - 200m track race for 8 years total.

Ronith: In my biography I am exploring Mick Dodson an Australian barrister who won Australian of the year in 1992. He stood up for his people and helped all in need. In the year 2000 he was awarded the title of trailblazer.

Alisha: For my biography, I chose Evonne Goolagong (for NAIDOC week). A champion tennis player who inspired generations to never give up and chase your dreams.

Rachel: My biography is about Emily Kame Kngwarreye. She is an Indigenous Australian who was an artist. She is known for painting and has painted over 3000 paintings.

Thinuli: Doing biographies  I chose to do it about Emily Kame. She is an artist who has made more than 3000 paintings. I also love writing biographies because I get to use as much creativity but also mixed with professionality and facts. :) She was the first aboriginal to master an art movement dominated by men. PS: I love writing.

Siya: My biography is about James Unaipon. He is an influential aboriginal leader who taught students. He was also one of the first aboriginals to write and read.

Prisha: My biography is about Samantha Harris. She is an aboriginal fashion model.

Maths- Time and Symmetry

By: Javis, Shanosh, Oliver, Erin, Mariam, Daham, Radinsa and Sayoon.

Mariam: In different countries the time is different to Australia time. We can minus or add some time to match the different countries.

Oliver: I learnt how to calculate the time zones in different countries. For example, the time zone difference from Paris to Melbourne is 8 hours.

Javis: I learnt that Scientific Notation can be applied to time by telling a large quantity of numbers (seconds) into a smaller number but still having the same value.

Erin: I learnt how to convert time zones.E.G Paris is 8 hours earlier than Melbourne

Sayoon: I learnt that 24 hour time is always what is after 12. Example: 16:57pm would be 4:57pm.

Menuli: I learned how to use twenty four hour time while learning about the Olympics all at the same time.

Shanosh: In my past journey throughout the unit of time I have mastered the element of how to read from a clock. I’ve also learned about time zones, for example what time the olympic would occur in our time.

Daham: I learnt in time about past, quarter and to. And I also learned all about the parts on the clock.

Symmetry

Oliver: In symmetry I have learnt to create drawings while creating lines of symmetry on them.

Sayoon: I have learnt that symmetry is the lines that can split or divide a shape into equal parts.

Shanosh: I have consistently been hardworking and identifying the sequence of symmetry. And my learning throughout the unit of symmetry has been a great success

Erin: I learnt that objects and letters in everyday life has symmetry too

Daham: I learned that some symmetry have different shapes in them but the overall picture is the same shape

Menuli: I learned that drawing can have symmetry not just shapes and and the lines can be in different places

Javis: I learnt that symmetry is a balanced similarity that can be found in two halves in an object

The Resilience Project

By: Tharini, Saakhi, Reyaansh, Boyan, Abiru.

In the resilience project, we have been learning about kindness and why we should share and why we should be grateful for what we have. We have also learnt how to control our emotions and how to know how to calm down when you get upset or hurt. We learnt the ways to help people in different ways and what to do when someone is angry or sad. We have also learnt about positive and negative self-talk.

Boyan: We have expressed our emotions and learnt about controlling our emotions and we have learnt about why it is important to be grateful and care about others.

Abiru: We have learned how to see and know how other people are feeling to help them and show empathy.

Reyaansh: We have learnt how to show kindness, get them included and help them.

Saakhi: We learnt about helpful and unhelpful behaviour to do when you're mad.

Tharini: We have been learning about mindfulness and being kind to others.

Inquiry

By: Alexa, Ajeet, Kevon and Parmin.

In Inquiry, we have been learning about interconnection. You might be wondering what interconnection is so let us tell you. Interconnection is how you are connected with people, countries, cultures and communities. You can be connected through travel/tourism, trade, consumerism, media and more!
