Welcome
I have thoroughly enjoyed and embraced the warm welcome I have received from students, staff and the community since taking on the principal role at the start of this term. I have had the pleasure of going into classrooms and meeting children whilst learning. I have witnessed the high quality planning, delivery and assessment of learning that our students engage in. I will continue to ensure that our students work collaboratively with staff to personally and collectively improve in their learning.
NAPLAN results
NAPLAN results were released earlier this month and it is a credit to all the hard working students and staff on the excellent results we have achieved. Our results were well above our similar and network schools in Reading, Writing and Numeracy.
At the school level, it shows the ongoing assessments and learning opportunities for our staff and students enable high quality results, with our evidence-based practices.
The support of parents/carers to follow up at home also helps to consolidate the learning that happens in our classes.
Well done.
Olympics
We are almost at the mid-point of the Olympics and it has been wonderful to see the support for our Australian athletes over in Paris. For us here at Somerville PS it was made even more exciting with Tyla McDonald, a local Somerville Resident, compete in the boxing. She put up a valiant effort in her first round bout, but unfortunately didn’t progress. I hope that this fuels her fire for further endeavours. Well done Tyla.
To celebrate the Olympics we are having an Olympic day here at SPS on Tuesday next week.
Go Aussies!
Book Fair
The Book Fair has been in full swing this week and it’s been wonderful to see so many students and families come in and embrace the books on offer. The joy of reading is something that is so special. If you haven’t been to the book fair, please take the opportunity to do so.
Somerville Star Awards
Congratulations to our Somerville Star Award Recipients
