Auslan Update

P-2

Our P-2 students are diving into Auslan with great enthusiasm, focusing on food signs and building sentences around them. This week, our goal is for students to ask questions like "your favourite food, is what?" and respond with two or more foods.

To enhance this experience, we were thrilled to have a Deaf visit to the P-2 Learning Community on Thursday 8 August during Period 1. The students got some answers to their questions about the Deaf community, practised their Auslan conversations and enjoyed some interactive games. Well done, P-2 community! Your dedication and resilience in learning are truly commendable! Keep up the fantastic work!

Y7

What a fantastic start to Unit 1 of Semester 2 for our Year 7 students! This term, they're immersing themselves in Olympic sports through Auslan, focusing on how to use their neutral signing space to depict scenes from rowing, table tennis, weightlifting, surfing, cycling, diving, and golf. They've been working on "depicting signs" by using cartoons as a way to illustrate these mini scenes with their hands.

To deepen their understanding of both the language and Deaf awareness/culture, a member of the Deaf community visited them on Friday 09 August, during Period 1 in the hall. This visit provided an invaluable opportunity for students to ask questions and learn more about life in the Deaf community compared to the Hearing world.

Great job, Year 7s! We are looking forward to seeing your skills skyrocket!
