Welcome Back From LS1 Juniors:

Kicking Off Term 3 with Excitement!

LS1 Juniors returned to school this week with great enthusiasm. We eagerly shared our holiday experiences through recount writing. Some of us explored the city, others caught up on the latest movies (Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4 were crowd favourites), and many spent quality time with family and friends.

In Clinics 1 and 2, we focused on our recount writing skills, while Clinic 3 ventured into Narrative Recounts — recounts with a creative twist!

We are now preparing polished versions of our exciting recounts, and can’t wait for you to read them when they are on display in the weeks to come.

We look forward to more exciting experiences in Term 3! 😀

LS2 Seniors - Inquiry/RE Concept: Discovery

As part of our exciting “Discovery” unit, our students have embarked on a journey to explore their own unique stories. We started by watching a touching scene from the movie “UP”. This scene served as a springboard for the children to reflect on the characters' stories and their own lives.

Using our thinking tool, See, Think, Wonder, the children delved into these questions:

  • What did you see in the story?
  • What were the important elements of the story for you?
  • What did it make you think about?
  • What did it make you wonder about?

Through this activity, the children shared their connections and experiences, realising that life is truly a journey of discovery. They reflected on how they have observed the different stages of life around them.

Next, each child worked on a “Belonging Layered Wheel.” This engaging activity helped them:

  • Reflect on their personal story and what makes them unique.
  • Think about the communities they are part of and how these communities shape their ongoing story.
  • Consider what they do as individuals that represents their Australian story.

We are thrilled to see the children so engaged in exploring and sharing their stories, and we hope you will join us later on in the Term to celebrate their discoveries.

LS3 JUNIOR READING

In Learning Space 3 Reading Clinic 1 & 2, we have been learning to identify the 4 W’s when reading – Who, What, When, Where.

To help us, we are using a program on the IPads called Colourful Semantics.

Here are some of the comments from the students about using the Colourful Semantics Program.

I like it because I get to figure out who it is and what they are doing – Danilo.

I like it because I have to work out who is in the picture – Sartaaj.

I like it because I get to add the information to the pictures – Balreen.

It is fun and I like it because there are pictures I have to match – Aaliyah M.

I have to put the pictures together and I like doing that – Cattaleya.

LS3 Seniors

We have began our term by exploring a new concept on the topic of ‘Discovery’, which deeply focuses on History. In honour of NAIDOC week, we started by examining significant moments in Australian Indigenous History.

The students reflected on the long journey spanning 60,000 years of Indigenous history, showcasing the ongoing fight for recognition and land rights. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples perspectives will be a constant thread interwoven through this inquiry unit, as the students build on their own understanding connecting back to the world around them. We also shared our own stories, discussing our origins and our past. This allows students to celebrate their rich and diverse heritage in a safe and inclusive environment.

Over the coming week, please take this opportunity to deepen your children’s understanding of their heritage by sharing stories and pictures to build their knowledge of their rich cultural history.

We are looking forward to “Grandparents and Special People Day” later this term, where we will have the chance to learn more about Australian history through first-hand accounts from our grandparents, making strong connections between our past, present and future.

SPORTING SCHOOLS – VOLLEYBALL CLINICS

We have been fortunate enough, to once again receive funding through the Sporting Schools Program, which is funded by the Australian Government. The students will participate in 4, 55 minute sessions. The clinics will take place in Week 5 through to Week 9. Below are the days the Volleyball Clinics will be held for each Learning Space so that you ensure your child is wearing their sports uniform for the day and brings their drink bottle.
