Australia's First Catholics

The 5/6 classes have been learning about the first Catholics in Australia and how the Church developed in the early days of British settlement.

Those first Catholics were a mix of British soldiers and convicts.  The first priest to say mass was a convict too, although a political convict, not a criminal convict.  Fr Dixon said masses during 1803 until they were banned after the Rum Rebellion.  After this, mass was not held again until around 1820 when priests, appointed by the British authorities came to Australia.

Class Masses

Class masses will resume next week with Fr Michel as he returns from his holidays.

Baby Moses
