ATSI Ear Health Checks
In Week 4 our school was visited by the team at the Under 8’s Aboriginal Ear Health Program. This program aligns with the SA Aboriginal Ear Health Framework and addresses gaps in provision of prioritised referral and management pathways for Aboriginal children living across the Northern and Southern Adelaide Local Health Networks.
The Under 8’s team of Aboriginal Health Practitioners undertake screening of Aboriginal children primarily aged 0-8 years in early childhood centres and primary schools as well as in the clinic setting and community events. Screening is comprehensive and includes, but is not limited to, ear health and hearing, dental and immunisation assessments. Children can then be referred to appropriate services ensuring direct referral pathways into audiology and ENT services at the most appropriate location for families.
National Day against Bullying
The 2024 theme for the National Week of Action is 'Everyone Belongs'. Students at Modbury have been exploring this theme in their classes, through our PBL values of Kindness and Safety. To mark the national event, which coincided with the AFL Showdown, students celebrated with a 'Wear Your Colours Day' on Friday Week 4. Students were invited to wear their team colours, or the colour purple (which is the official colour of the initiative) to celebrate the day, and raised $99.00 towards our garden project.
To make the day even more exciting, children had the opportunity to order a showdown donut as a special recess treat through our local bakery Pie Time.
Dance Club
This term some of our Year 5/6 students have started a lunchtime dance club for our R-2 students. Ivy-Rose, Sophia, and Amelia spent time in the holidays preparing a routine to Taylor Swift's 'ME'. The girls organised sign in sheets, warm up routines, choreography, and purchased stickers for the students who attended. They have even designed participation certificates for the students who continue throughout Terms 3 and 4. The dance group are hoping to be able to share their dance at our end of year concert. Well done girls, you've shown great initiative and leadership!
Thrive with Five
Play is good for babies and adults!
Play can happen anywhere and can be fun for baby and carers. A good shared laugh is a mood booster!
Play Peekaboo: While sitting with baby, hide your face behind your hands or a blanket and then reveal it saying ‘Peekaboo’. This helps baby understand that understanding that objects continue to exist even when they cannot be seen, heard, or touched.
Dance: Hold a dance party to a favourite song and dance with your little one. It improves motor skills and is a good way to be active together.
Play Hide and Seek with Toys: Hide a toy under a blanket and encourage your baby to find it. This teaches problem-solving skills.
Stacking blocks: Simple stacking toys, building blocks or plastic containers help develop motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Bubble Chase: Blow bubbles and let your baby try to catch or pop them. The movement and colours will captivate them.
Outdoor Exploring: Let your baby feel the grass, leaves, and flowers. You can also collect safe items like smooth stones or pinecones for them to explore.
Tummy Time on a Blanket: Lay a blanket on the grass and let your baby enjoy tummy time while looking at the sky, leaves, or toys. Talk out loud about what you see and hear.
