School Council

BE INVOLVED, BE CONNECTED

As South Melbourne Park Primary is not fully funded by the Victorian government, the school undertakes fundraising activities throughout the year to provide support and funding for the added extra’s we know will help enrich and delight our kids and spark their curiosity at school.

There are two main fundraising activities we run each year – the Walk-a-thon and Disco Bingo. Together these two events raise around $30-40,000 each year. Sometimes these events are supplemented by other fundraisers such as cake stalls, Bunnings sausage sizzles or Election Day/voting booth activities.

The Council is mindful of ensuring that we have a mix of both community and fundraising events on our calendar each year to ensure the entire community has the opportunity to be involved in both fundraising and bringing our community together. The pricing of an event generally provides an indication of its funding purpose.

In 2023, the school raised just over $40,000 from fundraising activities. The plan was to use the funds to create ‘green’ play spaces for our kids and augment them with rugged play equipment including building and construction toys and sporting equipment. In a time of rising prices, we were delighted that the quote for this work came in under the allocated budget and this has allowed us to invest the remaining fundraising dollars in staging and sound equipment that will be used for the upcoming school performance (12-13 September) and can be repurposed across multiple activities for the school going forward. I extend heartfelt thanks to Michael Grech who has made this possible.
