What do you do in FLT?

Now there may be people wondering what FLT is and what people do in that group? Well FLT stands for Faith Leadership Team, and it is a small, select group of followers of God, who want to take the next step in their faith, by putting their hand up and saying, "I want to help proclaim God's word to others" and help lead others around them in the direction of God. The FLT groups aim is to help show God's love in our everyday lives, but more specifically in the school setting.

God calls us as Christians to love and be role models, to those that we come across in our everyday life. This can come in many forms and in our FLT meetings we discuss and learn how we as individuals, but also as a group, can further learn to love and lead our neighbour with God's help.

We hold a weekly meeting on a Thursday for all FLT members to attend where we do discipleship lessons led by Mr Wynne. We also hold a lunchtime group on a Friday named Seed where we invite anyone in the Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary schools in to come listen and discuss life and God. We also hold Prayer Breakfasts every second week on a Friday morning, where we cook pancakes and offer to pray with and for people. We have seen God do some pretty awesome things and we are excited to see more!

Here are 5 tips for teenagers on growing closer to God

  1. Prayer: Prayer is the most personal way of being in touch with God through the Holy Spirit. By positioning yourself in a state of humbleness towards Him, He will listen and speak to you.
  2. Community: As a Christian it is very important that we find others that we can talk, discuss and share our faith with, and that share the same foundational beliefs.
  3. Read the Bible: It can be a very difficult thing to do, reading the Bible, but simply by just reading a verse or chapter a day, God can show you what he wants you to know. And for Christians, the Bible is what we base and guide our lives off, by following God's words throughout the books.
  4. Attending Christian communal events (e.g. Youth, Young Adults): Youth nights and events, young adult groups if you are at that age, are some great platforms that can help you meet like-minded people who can help you with growing closer to the Lord, and in result, you can also have a positive impact in their lives.
  5. Spending time in God’s creation: By slowing down our busy lives and taking a step outside into God's creation, there is a natural feeling of connection with God, that can come with that movement, because God made the world, for us to connect with and dwell in.
