Wellbeing Team News

Our wellbeing team continues to grow at Newlands. My role is to lead this team and support all members of the community. My many years of experience as a classroom teacher and now as a wellbeing leader have ensured that I have and continue to grow the skills to undertake this position. 

We continue to have Meagan (Behavioural Analysist) and Thao (Paediatric Pyschologist) as part of our team. Meagan is employed by the school to support students and their families and the continued development of our Wellbeing program. Thao is an outside provider who has access to the use of a space at our school to run therapy sessions for students and their families. These sessions can be accessed through NDIS funding or a referral from a family doctor which is then partly covered by Medicare.

This term we welcome our two new education support staff, Elisa and Gabi to our team, they will be working in classrooms to support students. Their role will be to support teachers to implement individual learning and behaviour support plans. 

Resilience Conference

This week I attended 'The Resilience Project' conference. I will be undertaking further investigating around this program and how we can use components from the project to support our Wellbeing program. The main focus of the Resilience Project is to find happiness through gratitude, empathy and mindfulness.

The keynote presenter was Hugh van Culyenburg.

A session is being organised for parents to explore 'Resilience'. The day and time for this activity will be posted in my next wellbeing update in two weeks time.

Foundation Prep Packages

Foundation students who qualify for CSEF are eligible to receive a uniform package.

What’s in the package? 

The 2024 package contains the following items: 

1 x  Windcheater or Jacket (Bomber/Polar Fleece) or Long Sleeve Polo 

1 x Track Pants  

1 x Pair of Shoes (Lace Ups or T-Bars or Sneakers Skate or Sneakers Velcro)

I will be contacting families next week to organise these packages. I will need your child's sizing including show size to complete the applications.
