State Cross Country

On Thursday last week, Maggie K from Level 4 became only the second student from Jells Park in 10 years to make it to the State Cross Country Competition. She ran in the 2km Under 10 Multiclass section with her sister, Miranda, guiding her through the wet and muddy track.

Maggie worked extremely hard through the difficult conditions to finish 4th overall.

After the classifications were tallied, she progressed up to third place overall. This is an amazing achievement for Maggie and her family and something to be extremely proud about.

As a result of her third place, Maggie has now been selected to represent Victoria in the National Cross Country Competition which will be held at Yarra Glen. The competition is on Wednesday 21 August, where she will be competing against students from other states across Australia.

Congratulations to Maggie and family, for this amazing achievement.

The Jells Park Community will be cheering you on. 🥳

To support Maggie with her Team Victoria selection and the upcoming Olympics, we will be having a Green and Gold dress day on Friday 2 August.

If you would support Maggie in attending the National Championships, families can either support with a gold coin donation on the day or via QKR.

School Sports Victoria Soccer Trials

Carissa T (Level 6)

On 11 June, I attended the School Sports Victoria (SSV) trial for the girls soccer team.

This is where the best girls in each state play against the best girls in other states. This year the competition was going to be held in Western Australia.  I was happy to be at the trial as I already knew quite a few of the girls that were also trialling. Some girls were from my club, some were from my futsal team and others were from the Skills Acquisition Phase (SAP) program for Victoria I do.

The grounds where this was taking place were the same grounds where I do my SAP training in Thornbury.

On this day I played 4 back-to-back games of half an hour each. I thought I played well that day. A few days later I found out that I made it into the next round. When I went to the next trial, I saw that the girls were really good.

Unfortunately, on that day I was suffering from a cold and even though my skills were good I couldn’t run as much as I normally do. They told me that I didn’t get into the next round.  I was a little disappointed that I didn’t make it in, but I was happy that my friend, who is a little older than me, made it.

A few weeks later I entered a futsal competition with my team and won it.

For my club we’ve won every game, except for one that I was away for. That is what happens with competitive sport. Sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t. I know so long as I keep practising and trying I’ll do good in soccer. Next, I’m really looking forward to the international futsal competition at the Gold Coast in January.

Jasmine K (Level 6)

Jasmine K also represented Jells Park at the recent School Sports Victoria Girls Soccer Trials.

She also had a very successful first round of selections, progressing through and being part of the top 50 girls in the state to trial for the Victorian Team. Unfortunately, she also did not make it through, however, during these tryouts, she has been scouted to join the Melbourne City Select Girls Squad, which is one of the strongest and sought after academies in soccer. This is in Bundoora every Monday night and is the pathway for their Professional A league team.

This is a tremendous achievement by both girls and our school community wishes them all the best for their future endeavours in their sporting career.

We could have a couple of future Team Matilda’s!!!
