Our students have been enthusiastically embracing their Indonesian learning these past two weeks!
Prep
Prep students have settled in beautifully, bringing lots of energy to lessons. They have started learning colours and numbers and love joining in with actions alongside Bongo. We also enjoyed a story about balloons.
Year 1/2
Year 1 and 2 students have been busy creating pages for a class book all about themselves, sharing their age and interests. They are counting higher than ever and having fun playing ‘Siapa Monyet?’, while revising colours and animal words. Students have also explored the Sumatran rainforest, and the world’s smelliest flower!
Years 3 - 6
Years 3 to 6 have been using an online dictionary to create profiles about themselves, their families, and their interests. Their chosen topics, like sport and music, have become mini lesson starters, making learning even more exciting! They’ve also enjoyed playing ‘Pukul’ and ‘Siapa Monyet’.
It has been a fantastic start to the year in Performing Arts, with students diving into creative activities that develop their confidence, teamwork, and artistic expression.
Here’s what we’ve been exploring this fortnight:
Prep
Our youngest learners have been exploring rhythm and movement through action songs, simple dances, and musical storytelling. They have been introduced to body percussion and are developing their ability to keep a steady beat.
Year 1/2
Year 1 and 2 students are exploring the musical concept of beat and its crucial role as the foundation for all music. They are practicing identifying the beat in music through engaging activities and games.
Year 3/4
Year 3 and 4 students are building on their foundational knowledge of beat. They are revising a 4|4 time signature before learning about a 3|4 time signature and applying this knowledge through playing and movement activities.
Year 5/6
Students are learning to understand and identify hooks within songs. They are then recreating a hook from a song or composing their own.
Choir News
A big highlight this term is our school choir, which is already preparing for its first performance at assembly on Monday, March 24th. It has been wonderful to see so many students participating and sharing their love for singing and music. Congratulations to Ashlea W and Sophie R, who have been selected as choir captains! They have been doing a terrific job leading choir practice by engaging students in warm-up activities and helping to foster a strong choir community.
Prep
During the last two sessions in PE, the Preps have been learning about throwing and catching through targeted activities. We have been working on underarm throws and learning how to track and aim for a target, using the steps of throwing and catching.
Year 1/2
Over the last two weeks the Year 1 and 2 students have also been working on improving hand-eye coordination. Last week we focussed on developing the correct hand positions for overhead and lower trajectory balls, while this week we worked on a circuit to practise our skills. We incorporated a variety of different sized balls, balloons, ping pong balls and even scarves to practise our catching skills. I was very impressed with some of the amazing catching tricks that students were able to perform and share with each other!
Year 3/4
The Year 3 and 4 students have been focusing on throwing, using a variety of passes and varying ball sizes, and catching. They have been utilising these skills in group games, which are also targeting teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship.

Year 5/6
This week we had perfect weather conditions and we were able to spread out over the oval and commence a cricket unit. Year 5 and 6 students worked cooperatively together to improve their throwing, catching, and overarm bowling skills. I was particularly pleased with the way in which they coached each other, providing and accepting feedback on their skill execution. Great work!
Next week we will introduce batting skills.
Year 5/6
Year 5/6 students brought their volcano models to life this week! They experimented with baking soda and vinegar to simulate volcanic eruptions. It was messy, fun, and filled with plenty of scientific observations!
Year 3/4
This week, our budding Year 3/4 scientists explored how tectonic plate movement shapes the world around us. Hands-on experiments with oreos showed tectonic plate movement in action, while our 3D printed vortex valves gave us insight into how a tornado (vortex) impacts landforms. The class loved sharing their findings and getting messy!
Year 1/2
Our Year 1 and 2 students explored how fossils form over time by creating their own fossil layers in a large box, which became our archaeological dig! From sand and soil to hidden treasures, the students loved layering and learning. Their curiosity about Earth’s history is inspiring!
Prep
Prep students have been busy observing reptiles up close this fortnight! They created detailed drawings and even conducted an experiment to find out why reptiles love the sun and how they move. Their curiosity and enthusiasm have been inspiring to watch.
