Principal's message

Dear Families,

As students and staff have begun their new year together, an important whole school focus has been to establish calm and productive learning environments where students have a sense of belonging and are connected to their peers. The three crucial elements the school is prioritising to create this solid foundation are relationships, routines, and expectations.

As a result of our ongoing focus on Social and Emotional Learning through the use of the Play is the Way program, and our participation as a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) trial school, we have developed and refined our school values and behavioural expectations.

All classes have started the year with a focus on exploring our 5 values statements and teaching the expected school behaviours as a strong classroom environment cannot be built on relationships alone. It must also have clear expectations and routines. Routines provide a sense of structure, allowing the learning community to manage time efficiently and reduce the mental load of decision-making. It has been great to see these expectations and routines being explicitly taught so that good learning habits for success are in place. These routines are equally important at home for families. A consistent and predictable nighttime routine will also set your child up for a successful day at school the next day.

It is wonderful to see the work being done in every learning environment to ensure expectations on behaviour, learning habits and the way we treat each other are being explored in collaboration with students and then expectations being explicitly taught. When students have a voice in the development of their class expectations, they have ownership over their learning community and are more likely to be invested in choosing the behaviours that reflect our school wide expectations and are aligned to our values statements:

As we navigate the year ahead, remember that success comes in many forms and learning is a journey, not a defined outcome. By focusing on these areas, we are setting a strong foundation that will underpin our students progress and development for years to come.

Please confirm your attendance to enable us to cater for the correct numbers.

During the AGM, we will form our 2025 Governing Council.

Reminder of Beginning of Day Drop Off Times

Our yard is supervised by staff from 8:30am each morning. We ask parents not to drop their children off earlier than this. From 8:30 – 8:45am students are encouraged to spend time in the yard catching up with friends and/or playing before the start of the school day. The 8:45am siren signals to students and that they need to go to class to organise their belongings and be ready for learning to commence at 8:50am. The Breakfast Club is open each day before school. All students are welcome to access this free service.

If families need to access school earlier than 8:30am, you need to book your child into Out of School Hours Care (OSHC). Please contact Jordan, the OSHC Director for details and costs.

Regards,
