From the Year 4 Classroom

In Literacy, we have continued reading Kensuke’s Kingdom while exploring literary devices such as idioms, personification, hyperbole, and similes to enhance their understanding. They have also begun learning how to write persuasive texts, focusing on structuring paragraphs with a clear topic sentence supported by evidence. Additionally, they have been actively participating in the Daily Review, which reinforces spelling, grammar, and handwriting skills. It is taking time for us to adjust to the new way of learning with Ochre, however the children have been committed to following the process. They are all doing a great job!
In Math, we have began their learning using the Ochre structure. Students begin by engaging in a Daily Review task with the purpose of tapping into their prior knowledge. Students then move into their new learning focus that continuously builds on. Students have covered the compensation strategy when involved in addition and subtraction, as well as the vertical algorithm. Students have used their whiteboards regularly to engage in their learning, some using concrete materials using MAB to support their understanding, as well as their workbooks. Students have demonstrated their enjoyment for Math games and brain breaks to assist their learning.
In Religion, we have covered the topic of Prayer. Students have been involved in Prayer walks and have had the opportunity to reflect on things they are grateful for. Students have co-written a Year 4 Prayer as well as their own gratitude prayers. They have also participated in Meditation and were most reflective.
In Inquiry, we have been learning about online safety and the skills required to create safer online environments by protecting our passwords.
Students have enjoyed the Swimming Program running in our school, particularly with the hot and muggy weather we have been experiencing. It has been great to hear the positive feedback and enjoyment from students after these sessions. The swimming program will finish up for students at the end of this week.
We are very impressed with the majority of students being in the correct school uniform. Thankyou for your cooperation in ensuring our uniform looks fantastic.
