From the Year 2 Classroom

What a busy couple of weeks it has been to start the year off!

Last week, both teachers and students began their transition into the new curriculum.  The children have done such an amazing job at focusing and beginning to learn about InitialLit.

Each week the students are learning new digraphs in spelling.  They have been brainstorming words, looking at tricky words and writing a dictation sentence, focusing on handwriting and punctuation.

In writing we have focussed on imaginative writing.  The children have used a writing stimulus of a dragon and have been creating some great imaginative stories.

In Maths we have started using an interactive math game called 99math which focuses on quick thinking skills.  The children are absolutely loving this new challenge and are trying very hard to get 100% in each session.  Place Value has also been a focus for the first few weeks of term.

Father Jun Jun will be visiting the year 2's on Thursday to speak to them about the church and Religion aspects.

Next week the Year 2's will head down to watch the swimming carnival on Thursday.  Information about this will be sent out soon.

A reminder that reader diaries are due in on Friday.  It is still an expectation that children are reading each night and the diary to be returned each week.

Specialist day is on Tuesday and library Wednesday.

Last weeks awards winners were: Noel Ryan, Brian Su and James Burling- all for an amazing transition into Sacred Heart. They have had a great first week at school. Well done.

A few pictures of the Year 2's enjoying their day.
