Kitchen and Garden & Sustainability News

WELCOME TO THE KITCHEN AND GARDEN PROGRAM FOR 2025!
Wow where did that fortnight go???
GARDEN
In the garden this fortnight, the weather was against us so we had to move things indoors. That suited our year 6 teams as they are planning and designing a garden bed that they will then go on to actually plant and nurture during their time in the garden. Their goal is to select plants that are suitable to plant in Autumn and then work out how they can plant out a garden 1mt x 1mt with the most productive food forrest.
Today they began the research plase and in teams, wrote a selection of plants that are suitable for the season and also plants that compliment each other. We had gardens planned out with carrots, beetroot, parsley, peas, marigolds and lettuce. Others had onions, raddish and broccoli.
Next time we meet they will finalise their plant selections and draw up their garden plan and order their plants.
Finally, phaze 3 is the planting out. This is where their designs will come to life and the fun begins!
Kitchen
The kids whipped up a storm in the kitchen. We stepped back in time with traditional scones with jam and cream. The students learnt some new techniques and terminology when they had to rub the butter and flour together and also use a butter knife to mix the wet and dry ingredients together.
Congratulations on all the students for putting 100% effort into their first fortnight of kitchen and garden. We cant wait to how much they grow this year!
Each fortnight we will endeavor to share you heaps of great action shots of your children and we will also share our recipes so that you can make them at home.
Please keep checking our page for more updates about the kitchen and garden program and all things sustainability.
