Yard Duty & Supervision

As part of our Duty of Care to your children and to ensure their safety at all times we have a comprehensive Yard Duty and Supervision policy this can be found on the school website and via this link.

Before and after school Mount Pleasant Road Primary School’s grounds are supervised by school staff from 8:40am until 3:40pm.

Outside of these hours, school staff will not be available to supervise students. Kiss and Drop off is monitored by a staff member as well as a staff member roaming the school grounds including all entries and exits.

Parents and carers should not allow their children to attend Mount Pleasant Road Primary School outside of these hours.

Families are encouraged to contact OSHClub for more information about the before and after school care facilities available for our school community.

If a student arrives at school before supervision commences at the beginning of the day, the Principal or nominee staff member will, as soon as practicable, follow up with the parent/carer to:

● advise of the supervision arrangements before school

● request that the parent/carer make alternate arrangements.

If a student is not collected before supervision finishes at the end of the day, the Principal or nominee staff member will consider whether it is appropriate to:

● attempt to contact the parents/carers ● attempt to contact the emergency contacts

● place the student in an out of school hours care program (if available and the parent consents)

● contact Victoria Police and/or Child Protection to arrange for the supervision, care, and protection of the student.

Kiss and Go

"Kiss and Go" is a  a system used in many schools to streamline the process of dropping children off in the morning. The goal is to keep traffic flowing smoothly and to avoid congestion, especially during busy school hours.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Designated Area: Parents or guardians drive into the drop-off zone outside the school. This area is marked clearly, and it is intended solely for quick drop-offs. There is no parking allowed here.
  2. Quick Goodbye: Parents are encouraged to stop briefly, get out of the car, and kiss their child goodbye (hence the name “Kiss and Go”), or just say a quick farewell. The idea is to keep the process as fast as possible.
  3. Safety First: After the child exits the car, they walk into the school, and the car continues moving. School staff will be there to assist with safety
  4. No Parking: Parents should not linger, park, or get out of their cars. The goal is to ensure a quick and efficient flow of vehicles to avoid any unnecessary delays for other families.

This system is designed to make the morning drop-off smoother, reduce traffic congestion, and ensure that kids are dropped off safely while minimizing wait times for parents. It helps maintain an organized routine for the busy school morning rush.
