PEER SUPPORT SESSIONS

Week 3 - Values

Key content:

  • Exploring values; personal and others

  • This week, students explore values – their own and those of other people.  Values are positive ideas/qualities which an individual believes are important and that influence what they think, say or do. Different people and communities place different levels of importance on some values compared to others.  Importance given to values can change over time and in different situations for individuals and communities.

  • Students consider a range of values, decide which are most important to them and how they show them in their own life.  They discuss how to be respectful to someone who has different values to their own.

  • Students also reflect on the positive values displayed by famous people and how positive influence can happen locally and globally.

Week 4 - Integrity & Influence

Key content:

  • Linking behaviour to emotions, integrity and influence

  • This week, students link behaviour to emotions integrity and influence.

  • Integrity means doing the right thing because it’s the right thing to do. It involves thinking and acting in ways that truly reflect our values.  Sometimes this means making difficult decisions. Acting with integrity can be challenging. Students explore difficult decisions and what it takes to choose what is right over, for example, what is fun.

  • Students can be influenced in positive ways that help them grow.  They can also be influenced in ways that can limit their thinking and affect the choices they make.

  • Students learn that reflecting on, and using values helps them act with integrity and be aware of positive and negative influences.  They are encouraged to realise what they say or do reflects who they are.
