Year 12 Outdoor Environmental Studies: Wilson’s Promontory Adventure

In Week 2, the Year 12 Outdoor Environmental Studies class embarked on an unforgettable adventure at Wilson’s Promontory National Park. This four-day, three-night camp offered a perfect mix of hiking, swimming, and sightseeing, set in one of Australia’s most stunning natural landscapes. Located at the southernmost tip of mainland Australia, Wilson’s Prom is known for its breathtaking views, diverse wildlife, and a variety of trails that cater to all levels of hikers.

Our journey began with a long, scenic 6-hour drive, followed by an exhilarating hike to the summit of Mount Oberon. After a long day of travel, our legs were certainly ready for the challenge, and the panoramic view from the top of the Prom was an incredible reward. To cool off, we enjoyed a refreshing swim at Norman Bay before settling in for a well-deserved rest, preparing for the adventures ahead.

Day two brought another exciting day, as we hiked from Tidal River to Oberon Bay. With stunning tracks and perfect weather, the walk was a highlight, and we were treated to the sight of playful wild seals as we swam at Oberon Bay. It was truly a special moment to get up close with nature in such a beautiful spot.

On day three, we made our way back to Tidal River, where we wrapped up our trip with some journaling and SAC preparation. The experience was not only physically rewarding but also educational, providing us with plenty of real-world learning opportunities.

Overall, the camp at Wilson’s Promontory was a fantastic experience that we’ll all remember fondly. A big thank you to Mr. Bourke for accompanying us on this incredible journey and making it all the more memorable.
