Principal's Report

Our College School Council decision to install new turf at the front the community room and canteen has been lauded by our students providing them another space to enjoy from day one of this term. One of our Year 9 Learning 4 Life Community Connection groups were responsible for the construction of 6 new picnic tables that complement the new turf and looks fantastic. Other Year 9 Community Connection groups' activities included coaching sport at a primary school, wildlife program with a project at the end to build possum nests and an environmental group cleaning the beach and planting trees.

The College Captains did a fantastic job representing Patterson River Secondary College at a number of Anzac Day assemblies including the Seaford RSL and our whole school ceremony. Our captains consistently impress with their public speaking ability which always brings about praise acknowledging their calmness.  This year our captains have implemented a number of initiatives including but not limited to a Year 12 Camp and a return to a rubbish free school. The Camp occurred in the last week of this term and from the reported success it looks set become a staple going forward. Well done once again to our amazing Captains.

Year 10 Work Experience was a massive success, our highest uptake ever with 94% of students completing a placement, some are in the process of negotiating a second week while others have secured part time positions. It would be remiss of me not to thank all of the employers in our local community who support and provided placement for our Year 10 cohort.

Our Year 11 VCE VM and Business Management students ran an extremely successful Market Day raising over $2200 for the Kathleen Keegel Children's Fund. This fund assists disadvantage children with access to education and health and wellbeing services. If you would like to check out this charity https://www.kkcf.org/.

Course counselling starts week one of next term with Parent information sessions being held on Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd. Our students will be supported through this process by mentor teachers and T@SK teachers in Year 10 and 11. Hopefully students will engage in conversations with parents though this process and further support can be sought through look out for further communication via Compass.

Our Performing Arts team have been working feverishly in preparation for the Production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with opening night on Thursday 7th August at 7pm. Tickets will be made available from Tuesday 22nd July.  If previous years are anything to go by don’t wait to purchase your tickets as the four shows are sure to sell out fast.

Once again our Year 10 and 11 mid-year exams provided students with the opportunity to demonstrate key knowledge as well as engage in exam assessments conducted by external supervisors, something that will prove valuable for them when undertaking unit three and four studies in coming years. The examiners reported how impressed they were with our students application, engagement and behaviour during this process.

Well done to all on a fantastic term. Wishing all of our students, families and staff a safe, enjoyable and well-earned mid-year break.
